I started the whole process of moving to Korea (i'm in the UK) back in mid january.

I'm up to the stage where I have just sent off all of my documents to my academy and I am now waiting for my Visa issue number to be sent to me.

How long can I expect for this to come back and how long does it then take to get my passport stamped etc? I'm interested in other people's experiences.

I'm getting very impatient to get my flight booked and be off.

IF everything is in order, 4-10 days to get your visa issuance number then another 4-7 days to get your interview appointment and your visa put in your passport.

Sorry to hijack your topic, but I didn't want to start a new one for a related question. I've currently got a VISA which is good until March 31st, a D4 student visa. I need to get it renewed, but exactly what is the deadline for renewing it? First I need to pay my next semester education fee (or possibly 2 semesters worth) then get a confirmation letter to take to immigration. If I left it until the last minute, it'd be too late, correct? So I'm guessing I need to go down there 2 weeks in advance?

Ok I see. Hmm my recruiter is telling me that the passport visa stamp can be done via mail because I allowed my academy to access my education records...apparently this is a well known loophole? It saves me the trouble of going to the embassy...is this legit? I know others who have done it.

Under the old system, it was correct.

Now, with the new regulations you better check with the embassy/consulate rather than take the hard/fast advice of your recruiter. Currently, you are supposed to have an interview at the embassy prior to issuance of your visa (has nothing to do with your academic record).

You better plan on a trip (or 2) to the embassy.

You can do it anywhere between 60-1 day in advance of your visa/ARC expiry. I would advise you to do it at least a week ahead of the expiry in case of surprises (missing documents) at the time you try to extend/renew.
