After reading the SK Telecom thread on this website, I thought it prudent to briefly post one regarding my experience with LG Telecom.

Recently, I attended with my colleague, a President of LG Telecom, to upgrade my cell phone. We were informed by the GM, that foreigners may only have ONE cell phone registered under their name with the same cell phone company. Suffice to say, I had to register one cell phone (for my company) under my wifes name, and one cell phone for personal use. Of course, this should hopefully not prevent one from going to a competitor cell phone provider to register another cell phone number. Who knows? . . . . .

P.S. I was reluctant to post this due to my previous thread last year regarding the new KB bank policy on suspending ATM international cards. Of course, many people dismissed my report as false. However . . .

That's not really true as I have 2 SK lines and 2 KTF lines in my name. Not sure if it matters but I'm on an F-2.

It must be a newer rule then, because I tried to do this 6 weeks ago, and I ran into the same problem: 1 account per telecom company.

I believe it's done to curb phone call/banking scams, much for the same reason they're having all foriegners re-register at SK.

I concur that this is probably a recent policy. Most managerial staff that were present seemed unaware of the new policy. Although, I am a little baffled why foreigners have these restrictions and not Koreans . . .

By the way, I have a F2 visa as well.

I opened my newest account with KTF just last week in sinchon . And I was told by SK last month when I changed my phone the max. amount of lines a non-korean could have was 2 lines.
