I have everything ready to send to Korea.

Do I need to send my original University degree certificate. Is a photocopy/scan not good enough? I dont want to risk loosing this or even getting it damaged. Bare in mind I will be sending 3 sealed and stamped University transcripts. Would they send everything back if I was to send a scan of my certificate.
Thanks

A photocopy/scan is NOT ok.

If you don't feel comfortable sending your original degree, you can get make a photocopy, then get it apostilled and notorized by the Korean embassy. (I've heard that it needs to be BOTH apostilled AND notarized by the Korean embassy, but in my experience, being notarized by the Korean embassy is enough).

It's either/or.

If you get the copy apostilled, it does NOT need to be notarized by the Korean embassy. In fact, now that Korea has signed onto the Hague Convention, their embassies/consulates in countries that also participate will not authenticate documents. So, for Americans, Brits, Aussies, et al., notarizing at the embassy/consulate is NOT an option. You must get an apostille.

Note that (at least in the US) to get a copy apostilled, it will need to be notarized. Check your state's notary policies, as some allow for "true copy" notarizations and others don't. If they don't, you'll have to write out and sign a statement swearing that the copy is a true copy.

If you live in a country (read: Canada) that is not a party to the Hague Convention (apostille treaty), documents for use in Korea must be authenticated at a Korean embassy/consulate. This includes background checks and diploma copies.
