i am a tourist in korea for 2 months (after many years livig and working here) while i (hope to) write a book. unfortunately, my cell phone was stolen in vietnam this winter. . . i figured i'd just get a new one, but wth no alien card, apparently that is not possible.
does anyone have any ideas? also can a foreigner (with residency) have 2 cell phones registered to them? anyone know? |

Totally strange here, isn't it? I just had to show my passport in Hong Kong to purchase a pre-paycell phone and I was a tourist! Still have the phone and will be using it when I return there. In the US, the only thing I had to show to get a pre-pay phone was the money to buy the thing!
Here's another kicker for you: It's against the law in Korea to front your name so another person can get a cell phone or any other kind of finance account. Why that should apply to a pre-pay phone is anyone's guess.
So, you're here for two months? Buy a calling card so you don't feed all your money into the public phones when you call people in Korea. For those you're calling outside of Korea, either use the calling card or use one of the VOIP programs. |
