A bunch of my friends are throwing a show to raise money for the oil spill.
There are three great Korean bands playing.
The Geeks - probably the Korean band that's been the most successful in the US, after two tours there. If you hate drinking and haven't heard of these guys, you really need to get out more. And if you love drinking, don't worry, these guys don't mind if you drink at their shows.
Couch - Korea's most hated punk band always puts on a great show.
Suck Stuff - Korea's most hardworking punk band. I haven't seen these guys since their guitarist left for the US army, so I don't know what they sound like now.
Hellking - he's a Korean-American visiting from the US. I'm not sure what exactly he's going to be doing.
Anyway, if you like live music this is the place for you. Plus it's more fun than scraping oil off dirty rocks. |

This looks like a fun show and a good reason to get out too. I've been meaning to check out Skunk Hell since I arrived in Korea a few years ago, but my circle of friends aren't into it... Maybe I'll just go it solo!
But I do have a question. what's the comment about hating drinking? Is that something specific to the Geeks, or to Skunk Hell, or to the punk scene in Korea, or... ? I'm not much of a drinker myself, but really I'm just curious what you meant.

The Geeks are a straight-edge band. In the US or Canada, straight-edge has a reputation for violence. Kids get stabbed at straight-edge shows just for smoking.
But over here, the straight-edge kids are all very tolerant. I've been on the side of the stage drinking when they perform.
If you make it to the show, don't be afraid to socialise with people. Everyone's pretty much friendly to anyone not acting like a complete caulk. |

What would you consider as a reasonable donation? |

I didn't even notice that bit. Hold on a little while, and I'll ask the promoter. I figured they were just going to donate all the door money. Honestly nobody's going to be making huge donations. |

Yeah, they're not expecting huge donations for the show. I'm probably just gonna give 10 000 won and tell them to keep the change. |

I couldn't make it but it sounds like there were a lot of waegs at this and they raised more money than they were expecting. Did anyone get pictures? The Korean-American guy, Hellking, really wants to see any pictures or video that were taken. |

That's a pretty inaccurate and outlandish depiction of North American straightedge - it's more akin to some attention seeking reporting on Fox 25 than reality. Straightedge in the US is, for the most part, not like that at all.
Nonetheless, The Geeks are great. |

Well, I'm from Canada, and straight-edge up there is a bunch of goons who would think nothing of jumping a one-eyed cancer survivor when he's pissing at a urinal.
The Geeks came back with a good impression of US straight-edge both of their tours, but they never went through Utah. |
