|
|
Think this might be making a tempest in the proverbial teapot? Think again.
Inadvertently and perhaps unwittingly, the Hill-Bill Snake Oil Medicine Show is handing a major debating point to John McCain when he faces Obama in the runup to the general election this November.
Try as they might, the Clintons just cannot seem to put Party allegiance above petty power-grabbing politics. Bill taught Hill well on the mudslinging tactics that play out come every election in Arkansas and Texas and Louisiana.
Yes, my friends, I'm speaking of the Commander-in-Chief issue, the not-ready-for-prime time presidential ploy par excellance.
Hill-Bill will convince millions of voters that Obama is not ready to assume the chair in the Oval Office because he can't be trusted with the Red Phone or the Black Suitcase.
At the very least, they've successfully managed to plant a seed of doubt in the minds of many Independent voters that Obama doesn't have what it takes to make tough foreign policy decisions.
And that's where they're doing McCain's dirty work for him.
So what think ye, do you guess this last-ditch effort to paint Obama as a neophyte might just resurface with big results for McCain in the general elections, or do ye think it might dissipate?
If the latter, how do you suppose Hillary can diffuse the issue at the Democratic Convention this summer? Or will she even bother to try as she stews in her own bitter juices from the convention floor or the press boxes? |

Its called a primary, Steve.
I believe California, NY, and Florida each would like Clinton to be the nominee.
We're about to find out what Texas and Ohio think. |

I don't get it. Is McCain an idiot, that he would fail to seize on one of his few advantages against Obama unless Hillary pointed it out for him?
Hillary has been much less than vocal about national security and "experience" so far for a very simple reason: she has no more "experience" in managing crisis than Obama does, and what judgment she has demonstrated on national-security matters has been abysmal.
The general election will be a sharper contrast on experience, not so much on judgment. McCain voted for AUMF too. If you think Iraq isn't going to be an albatross around McCain's neck this year, you are unacquainted with the mood of the country. No doubt he will get some traction by charging that Obama is inexperienced, but Obama's ready-made counter (AUMF) will be just as effective as it has been against Hillary. |

Yes, of course McCain is an idiot, as are Karl Rove who still has the RNC phone number, the Republican members of Congress and the entire Republican Party membership. They would never, on their own, have thought to challenge Obama on experience. It just would not have ocurred to them.
However, it would occur to an obscure ESL teacher in the wilds of South Korea. |

Just a correction, Florida at this point doesn't have a say in who the nominee is because the Florida Democrats refused to play by the rules.
I'm sure they will be seated at the convention, whomever the nominee is. But given the fact they were told of sanctions for the early primary before it took place, they don't count toward the nomination.
Note: The word that is bleeped is c o u n t, I'm not sure why the swear filter is acting up. |

I'm sorry. The Florida Democrats refused to play by the rules? You mean a few Democrats in Florida tried to move their state up.
I liked the GOP's decision. Halve the delegate count. It was a sober and proportional response.
As you know, the Democratic nominee will have to campaign in Florida for the General Election. |

Maybe Florida Democrats should be mad at the Florida Democratic Party instead of the DNC and Obama. It's seems like that is who the Clinton campaign placing the blame on.
Either way, Florida is a non-issue until the convention. They screwed themselves. |

Wow. This really is a Clinton issue for you.
Listen, as much as it would make sense for Florida Democrats to restrict their ire to the Florida Democratic Party, I'm sure some Floridians are going to take out their anger on the Democratic candidate more generally.
I'm too lazy to look for it, but I believe, back when Richardson was in the race, that I was none-too-happy about the DNC's decision. |

Nope, it's an issue of following the rules. They were laid out, both campaigns agreed with them. Some of Clinton's people including Ickes even voted for them.
It's sad you can comprehend that. |

Good grief. You missed the point: McCain can now claim that his concern about Obama in regards to crisis management is suspect and remind voters that even one of the leading Democratic contenders agrees with him.

Perhaps you forgot one of the vowels because you're mind was on other matters? P.S. Looks like Kuros is on the same wavelength.

No surprise from this bench. The Party of Purists in the 2000 general election fallout in Florida looks to be immersed in chicanery themselves right now.
As I've said repeatedly, the Clintons will stop at almost nothing to get what they're after. |

Steve,
I agree with you. Hillary Clinton is proving your point right now as she in Ohio and Texas she is getting nastier by the second. Maybe we should just call the election for her now since she's intent on winning no matter what the cost is to the party.
I just read on Yahoo that she is not quitting the race. It looks like we are headed toward a brokered convention. McCain will win easily in November. |

MD:
Er--Hillary is a co-unt, minus a vowel.
YaTa Boy:
I put a contraction where a possessive was required. My bad. My excuse is that I was in the midst of preparing material for a graduate seminar. What's your excuse for being obtuse?

Everytime a man says that, Hillary gets another vote. |
