People, at least Westerners from first world countries, want more than just a paycheck.

We want to be treated with respect.

Thank you.

delete??

Is that too much to ask?

I'm not talking respect due a first world corporate mogul.

Just the respect due a human being.

Just because I am not a Korean, does not make me stupid or unenlightened or somebody to be treated like a retarded child.

Do Westerners treat Asians that way?

I think not.

Certainly not in the 21st century.

In my experience. You treat Koreans with respect you get treated with respect. Give and take.

IMO!

Are you suggesting that 3D workers don't want respect? Confused Poorly worded at best, but I get your drift...

That sounds logical and all, but where's the evidence for such a claim? If I treat some guy at the emart with respect, will my boss magically hear of this and give me a raise?

Idiot. Probably been drinking the KKKorean KKKoolaid a bit too muchee. Anyhow, you could have done with telling that to anyone in my former neighborhood who considered my appearance as a cue for an impromptu English lesson or comedy show. I have no respect for Korea because it showed me the same over the five years I was there.

Notice the words, in my experience, and IMO?

Well, that suggests what's happening to me. You have a different experience. That's fine. But don't feel the need to dismiss those who don't have the same bad experience as you.

Does every good action have to have a dollar sign on it? Should every good deed or smile expect something in return? I hope not.

Because I and others have been treated with respect over our years here, we are idiots? I have earned respect from my supervisors, managers, neighbors, and generally everyone I have come in contact with. Korean people coming up to me and wanting to talk doesn't bother me. Sometimes I have no time, and will move along, at other times, I will stop and say a few words. Perhaps your view of English lessons are a comedy show, but I take my lessons seriously, and ensure that my students are benefiting from my lessons.

The people in my neighborhood know me, and often bow or say hello to me when they pass by. This from my six years in Korea. And really to associate Koreans with the KKK is a little much.

I'm beginning to wonder about the dual nature of respect with regards to foreigners here too. I've been at my public school for 21 months now and have proven myself as a teacher to the extent that i teach classes of up to 30 kids for 40 minutes a pop by myself. I'm still subject to the scorn of half the teaching staff for not being korean and not speaking the language, they still refer to me in front of the kids as (name) as opposed to (name song sang nim/teacher) and i think a lot of them regard english teaching as a bit of a joke. Actually the biggest gripe i have is with not being refered to as "teacher" by the other teachers in front of the kids, everyone knows titles and hierarchy are really important over here and for them to deny me that is pretty annoying. 10 weeks to go though then it's adios to these fake smile at your face/stab you in the back pricks.
