I posted something today in a thread about a shot of whiskey. The word shot was filtered? Why?

In the thread, "Advice on how to deal with Korean colleagues", the following advice was filtered. "Keep all conversations *beep* and act like it's because you're very busy."

I was reading another thread this evening where shot was edited.

So why filter the word shot? Is it some kind of anti-terrorist thing? If you say shot, then the secret service gets a call?

Come on Mr Dave, this is your livelihood.

It looks like a lot of words that fit the pattern of S.H.(something).T are being filtered (among other patterns I've noticed being bleeped). I would hazard a guess that someone put sh?t or maybe even sh*t in the filter list. Why not just put sh.1t and sh.!t in the filter, if the intention is to stop people from getting around it. Wildcards catch too much.

Whoever added the wildcard to the filter list didn't think it through.

They tried to beef up the swear filter and made some sort of huge error. They are aware of it now.

The software didn't like the additions, nor the withdrawal of the additions.
Evidently more tweaks needed.

FYI mods don't jig the swear filter, the admin does.

Thanks MOD. If I knew how to edit the title, I would change it to, admin instead of MOD...

Since you need a 4 year degree to get a teaching job in Korea and every one over the age of 10 has heard curse words, not let us read and use profanity and do away with the filter altogether?

Maybe it's just a shot in the dark.

I'm guessing the reasoning is that Dave doesn't want to scare away Koreans who might send more advertising money his way. Ironically the swear filter doesn't care about Korean swears, which might actually upset those people.
