Hello everyone.
Well, I might be coming back. I just got a call a few minutes ago from a middle school that has a last minute opening and they need me a.s.a.p.
It's a good job, with lots of vacation time but they want me to come with as a tourist visa and they said they would then help me get an E-2 visa and fly me to Japan all expenses paid.
What are your thoughts about that? I mean, I could get a round trip ticket and if things didn't work out just go home. Your advice would be appreciated.
Thanks. |

As long as they send you the e-ticket, and dont' expect you to work before you have your visa, then I think it's a good start. If they're willing to do that (staying legal), then I think they're showing some good faith, which is more than a lot of people can say about their work places.
-edit - the visa run costs are theirs too. transport and hotel. you pay the visa and running around over there (standard). |

If you have all your documents for the new E2 visa regs that is....and since you've worked here before...you may be exempt from the "interview."
It sounds like you're buying the ticket...if they need you so badly...it should be on their dime.
Flying you to Japan should always be on their dime...plus one night's accommodation.
My concern would be the new E2 regs. Make sure you've got your docs...notarizations...apostilles....make sure you don't have to perform the interview...if you were here, let's say for arguments sake, ten years ago...you'll probably have to perform the interview. That MUST be done in your home country.
And I agree with poet13...no visa...NO WORK! |

Under the new E2 visa regulations I would treat the enticing information from that middle school with extreme caution. From March 15th 2008, all E2 renewals must adhere to the new regulations which means obtaining all documents from your home country and having your visa processed in the embassy of your home country (where your passport was issued), whether in person or by post. Check with the Ministry of Justice, Korean Embassy in your home country and the embassy in Japan before proceeding with anything.
If you're from the UK or Ireland there are details of the E2 application process on my facebook group.

Thanks for your replies.
I didn't take the job. Once I saw the contract, I had a bad feeling in my stomach and said thanks but no thanks.
They said 2 weeks vacation in the contract when the ad says 60 days or more.
They said only 1 week camp and then your on vacation and contract says min. 2 weeks to 3 weeks.
They said 2.0 and up depending on experience, so I asked for 2.5 base because of my 8 years plus Master's and contract says 1.9.
I learned a lot last year and the main thing was that if it is not written in the contract, the principal can do whatever the fart he wants and I am not going to let that happen again.
So, I didn't take it...and I feel fine. Something good will come up soon, I'm sure. Again, thanks for your help. |
