I'm having an argument with a coworker.
Which is correct:
'He is one years old'
or
'He is one year old' |

Is one singular or plural? There's your answer. |

Years in the question, year in the answer if only one, years if two or more. Same for all countable nouns.

Now I'm even more confused. Is it countable, or countables? |

No. You have a year's worth. |

I believe you use hyphens, depending on usage and which style book you use for reference:
a one-year-old. |

I would suggest that hyphens make sense in your example, Nuthatch. However, in the OP's example, they would be, at best, superfluous. |

Don't use either; it should be 'He's a year old'. He is one year old is grammatically correct but it just doesn't sound right. |

Don't people usually measure a baby's age in months for the first 18 months or so? Maybe this is an American thing, but saying '12 months old' sounds more natural than '1 year old.' |

I did not type the above error. I asked my friend/student, who is Chinese, to type the correct answer. She sent it before I had a chance to look at it. Thanks for the constructive feedback though. I do make errors though as I am human.

To you maybe... to me it's more natural to say "a year old"... then 13, 14 15 months up until a year-and-a-half, revert to months until the 'terrible twos'.
P.S. I'm male, and... 'we're' not pregnant... she's pregnant! |
