Just curious. Basically, I'd start out in Seoul, then Gangchon, Chuncheon, Inje, Sokcho, Seoraksan National Park, Hwajinpo, Jeongdonjin, Samcheok, Hwanseon Donggul, Haesindang Gong-won, Hahoe Folk Village, Andong, Gyeongju, Ulleungdo, Busan, and then perhaps a ferry from Busan to Fukuoka for a few days in Japan.

Anybody have any thoughts or suggestions on a tour like this? Even better, anybody done it? Is the weather around this time (or early April) good enough that this won't suck?

Obviously this is not with a company, just solo traveling with my camera and a change of clothing.

I'd never do as organised tour of Korea. Most likely you'd end spending 99% of the time sitting on a bus.

Discover Korea? Laughing Call it the East by SouthEast Tour. It's the highlights of what's north of the Seoul-Busan corridor. At most one-fifth or one-fourth of the country in terms of area but great to see Gangwon province and a couple of historical sites in Gyeongnam.

If you're not driving, just skip Gangchon and take the nice train ride from Seoul straight to Chuncheon to start your trip (make sure you eat dukalbi there).

Don't bother with Hwaijinpo if not going during the summer. If going next month then instead substitute the Cheongok caves in Donghae.

And before heading to Japan, consider another ferry from the terminal in Busan to... Geoje Island! less than an hour south of Busan but several degrees warmer, visit Oedo there or local bus around the scenic eastern coast. Ask about the azealea festival on Daegum mountain, pretty with sight lines all the way to Japan (no kidding, can see Japanese islands at least).

And if you wanna skip Japan altogether on the trip then bus it off Geoje to nearby Tongyeong and ferry to some historic islands, some very nice, full info at the ferry terminal. Bus it to Jinju to hike the castle fortress park then that or the next day bus to Hadong at the Gyeongsang-Jeolla border for spectacular spring flowers, visit Sanggyesa temple and walk to the Bulil Falls waterfall, a great little hike walk into the fringes of Jiri National Park.

Once you've settled on an exact route or highlight package then PM me for some specific recommendations of places to stay or visit or eat at.

Do you mean one that has "must see" desinations along a path, or one that is "organized" by somebody else?

Man thanks for such an awesome post. I'm gonna seriously consider a lot of your recommendations, and I forgot that I was already going to skip Hwaijinpo because of the weather.

How does the country vary in traveling costs? I've more time than money.

If you plan to do this by yourself in April you will have mostly good weather and the trip will be easy enough to do.

Express bus terminal to bus terminal or even just the regular seat buses will get you everywhere cheap and easy.

Have a good trip.
