Did anyone else see the fight in Kangnam at the junction of the alley and the main street (one alley before Holly's Cafe from the Subway)?
Four Korean businessmen and one Korean lady -- all in suits -- got hauled away by the Police. Two of the guys got hit in the face several times. One of them had a fairly bloody mouth. The other a swollen cheek.
It was literally the pussiest fight I've ever seen.
At least 500 people watched in a big circle as four guys argued with each other and the woman screamed bloody murder. No one did much of anything to stop it for some time -- par for the course in Korea.
The guys hurled insults at each other and occassionaly popped the other side in the face -- I think it took 2 minutes to throw 3 or 4 punches. |

no but I saw a cat fight in yeungdeungpo about a month ago. Just two girls doing some hairpulling until one guy (who i think knew them) stepped in. It drew a big a crowd, but I don't think the cops got involved. But so what?
Fights happen in big cities, at least its not like LA where the gangbangers are likely to shoot or stab someone because of 'losing face' |

So true. Granted, Koreans fight A LOT, but when they do it's generally pretty harmless. Lots of pushing and intermittent swipes but rarely a full-on pugilistic match. Korean law is generally on the side of the injured party regardless of who started it, which can be a good motivating factor not to rearrange someone's face. |

I've been to LA, and I know exactly what you mean about gangbangers not wanting to lose face... If you look at a gangbanger for even a second more than he wants to be looked at you've got trouble on your hands... |

A week ago outside the Migliore in Gwangju these two Middle school girls were really beating, pulling, bushing this other girl. The one being pulled and punched was making a good fight of it back. The strange thing is that the others outside (quite a large group) were enjoying the fight. It was really weird. I was getting a taxi so I didn't stick around, but man sometimes Koreans are twisted. |

Seoultrader, you don't know what you're talking about. I've seen numerous male on female physical assaults where the victims had teeth knocked out, noses broken, etc. To say that there's "rarely a full-on pugilistic match" simply isn't true. My own personal observations contradict your assertion.
Further, you state that "Korean law is generally on the side of the injured party", when I have witnessed 2 male on female physical attacks (one on a bus, one in a public market) where the attacker was left alone by the police to continue on his merry way. Sorry, but my own experiences/observations don't agree with what you said. |

LA's not that bad of a place. You take ratio for ratio and korea is about the same with its problems. They are more subtle about it. Gangbangers would have a field day though in korea! You can bet one thing; koreans would stop their bad driving habits, bumping into people, no motorcycles on the sidewalks, stairing, eyeballing you, and on and on...if the gangbangers were in korea! Motorbike pulls up behind you on a sidewalk, beeps the horn telling you to get out of my way.. yeah, right, gangbanger pulls his piece and shoots the tires! |

1. My Korea experiences/observations outrank yours by at least a decade, kid.
2. Male-on-female assaults are more of a domestic violence-type (regardless of where it occurs) situation. What I was referring to is a standard stranger-on-stranger fight. |
