I did a little research about fire safety(no I am not a firefighter just a plain ole ESL Teacher):

1) "Smoke" Alarms and "Fire" Alarms (yes there is a difference). A smoke alarm detects smoke after a fire has started (obviously). A fire alram detects the heat from the fire. Fire Inspectors advise to use one of each. Smoke/Fire (2-in-1) alarms are also on the market.

2) Gas Stoves - As you know gas stoves are used in Korea. I wonder if these are safe? They just use a simple rubber hose that is attached with a clamp. I decided to ask a Korean about this and this is what she said:

"It is possible to have someone test the connections for gas leaks"

"Koreans mix some dish soap with water, put it on the gas line connections, and if it bubbles...it's leaking".

"There have been numerous cases of gas lines exploding in Korea"

My point is while installing smoke alarms also check the gas lines for leaks, etc.
