For those who haven't checked out the thread in the General forum (now a "sticky") Bill sadly passed away Saturday ...
Here's what I posted there:
I'm sorry for the loss to Bill's family and friends, but I'm glad he's passed away from his miserable condition.
There's no need, I think, to make his death a political issue. His lack of coverage under Korean National Health Insurance became a moot point after it was granted retroactively.
We Americans especially shouldn't criticize other countries' health coverage policies, and basically it's up to individuals to get whatever supplemental insurance may be needed (and to check out their smoke alarm situation...)
One reason that made it easier for me - and I'm sure others - to contribute and promote Bill's cause was that he seemed to be a truly qualified teacher (with a double bachelor's degree from Indiana State University) who sincerely enjoyed helping his students.
Rather than promoting "us against them" relations with our host country, I think it's best to put forward positive images of foreign teachers here whenever we can...

He seemed like an awesome guy. What pain he suffered and endured.
I really don't know the situation, but Turkey and Korea are two of the advanced countries where there is a problem with construction, safety, and these things need to be addressed for the safety of Koreans and foreigners. As far as health insurance, one is not covered by law in the U.S. However, he was working part-time, so I am not sure of his status, the job situation he was in. It seems like he was a stellar guy, and I can't imagine the anguish he had to deal with and what his family suffered to lose their baby boy. The loss is quite monumental, and he seemed to have been a very loving dude...
Rest In Peace, bro!!!!!
I'm so sorry this happened.. |
