I've always loved his music, but I'm not quite sure what he's doing in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I first heard his music when Rex Harrison's kid had a semi-hit with Cohen's 'Suzanne'. A year or so later I happened to run across Cohen's album in a discard bin at K-Mart or somewhere for about $1.50. That album became the hit of the 4 in the morning crowd as people were coming down from acid trips. |

| Did any of you ever watch The Young Ones? One time Neil the Hippy said, "I might as well be a Leonard Cohen record 'cause nobody ever listens to me." |

| Seeing this in the General Discussion forum got my hopes up that he'd be in Korea. |

Without Cohen, there's no R.E.M., Echo & The Bunnymen, Nick Cave, Jesus & Mary Chain, Suzanne Vega, Velvet Underground, etc. He's not rock 'n' roll, but he's responsible for creating one of the paths that rock 'n' roll took. |

i saw him on the street wearing a black overcoat, in paris one sunday morning, circa 93 ,outside the louvre, looking sad and alone.
the following yr he checked into a monastry in calif. to meditate and cook .
from there he retired for most of the 90s.
a famous shagger of famous chicks...grown old.
i think he needs the money now. |

He's not much of a musician really. He won a Juno and told the audience something along the lines of only in Canada would they give him an award for singing.
He is, however an exceptional poet and it shows in his music. I have a lot of respect for his material. |

I would also pay a crapload of money to see Cohen in Concert. He's one of the best poets alive today. He's got some great material that has been very much ignored.
I love St. John the Gambler's version of "There's a War". It's a great Cohen tune. Request it sometime!
Hoping commander Cohen comes and does a show in Seoul. (Also, check out his son, Adam Cohen~ very good stuff!)

Yeah, I've been surprised that I've heard his music playing occasionally at random places in Korea - such as a public bus. There are usually a couple of CDs lying about in big bookshops too. If you get the chance it's worth listening to the album - which he later effectively disowned - he made with Phil Spector (Death of a Ladies' Man). It's a totally different style to his other works and, due to Spector's influence, has a much more produced sound to it. It's not often you get to hear songs with a name such as "Don't go home with your hard-on". |
