Just posting the beginning of a one-month travel on here, and seeing if there is any interest. If there is, I'll try to give a few updates from time to time while here.
This is actually my second trip down here. Very very few foreigners anywhere. The cities are predominately christian and the muslims are in the rural areas and Zamboanga.
I'm in General Santos right now. It got the name because some christian general claimed this port town from this once muslim island. I'm typing this post from Pioneer Street. As most of the people living here are said to be 'pioneers' as they came from Visayas (christian/catholic areas of the Philippines) and claimed this city. There are checkpoints coming into the city, etc.
Anyways, in a few days, I'll be up in Davao and check out Samal Island, then up to Cagayan de Oro, and Camiguin and possibly over to surfing Siagao. We'll see. |

With the travel warnings on Embassy sites, Mindanao has gotten a bad rap. I guess you probably won't be frequenting the Muslim enclaves? Do you plan to visit Davao? I was amazed at how many Filipina beauties from Davao are looking for hubbies on the internet.
BTW, I understand you're headed to Japan soon. Please keep us abreast of how you're doing. I'd be interested to hear how the working and living experience differs from Korea. |

Yes, keep us informed. When in davao take the boat to samal and to Isla Reta. Its a nice quiet island to relax for a day. Also go to the new Peoples Park in davao. I heard its nice. Send my regard to the Mayor in Davao also.. |

Still in General Santos for one more day. Tomorrow going to take a bus to Davao.
I was there for one day a couple years ago and had a favorable impression of the city. Looking forward to seeing Samal Island as well. It might be the only beach city I know of - a city close enough to the beaches that are accessable to the general public (unlike Cebu City which just has high-end resorts).
There is another island off Samal Island that looked interesting, it wasn't Isla Reta, although I might have to look into that now. |

that sounds like CAMIGIUN?
White Island and also Ardent Hot Springs. Both are near Mambajao. Is that right? |
