Can you keep your korean bank account open if you leave and plan on coming back in about two years, or is there some kind of rule that says once you leave your bank account is closed?

Just like any bank it will close if inactive for too long, but that's not for years.

I would be wary of doing it in these times of MB economics, you never know what restrictions may be added.

yeah, worried a little about me not being in korea and them making up some kind of rule that bank accounts for foreigners will be closed if they have no visa and aren't here. just when you think it won't happen it will....

Won? Should be no problem. So what if ten years from now they close it?

Usually in a lot of banks if it has been inactive for ages they close it...

I gave my GF 10,000 won and my card. She can deposit and withdraw it a couple times a year. I don't think I'm coming back to Korea but if I do, I sure the hell don't want to have to be without an ATM card for 3 months.

I had 2,763 in an account at KEB for five years, untouched, with no problems.
