OK, this is not for me, but for a friend that's ailing.

My friend has resigned with her school and her visa expired on Feb. 27. The school is not doing much to help her and they're delaying the problem like most schools do. Anyways, she's probably hit her 10 day overstay.

Is it too late for her to renew a visa? Will she get deported if she turns up at the immigration office? I heard it was a 100,000 won fine per day you overstay, is that correct? How many days will it take to renew her visa? Thanks all who respond!!

Do you mean she resigned = quit or re-signed = signed again?

She resigned with her school about 2 weeks ago and now she has this visa situation. They should've resolved it then, but didn't.

Why in the world would somebody re-sign if a school is so fucked up that they can't even keep your visa status in order?

What counts is the expiry date on her ARC, i.e. the end of her 'period of sojourn'. After midnight, the fine is W100,000 for up to thirty days (and escalates exponentially after that). There is no grace period without getting an extension.

IF her ARC has expired she will be required to pay the fine and get that matter cleared up BEFORE she can do anything else.

With the new rules, she may NOT be able to renew/extend her current stay and may not even be allowed a new visa because of the immigration violation.

She best get down to immi ASAP and get it cleared up because it only gets worse the longer she leaves it.

After March 15 (this coming Saturday) the aspotilled CRC and medical get added to the list of required documents as well.
