Since December, Prince Harry had served in a line unit in Afghanistan. Some reports even put him in direct combat against the Taliban. As of this week, he is being sent back to the UK for fear that the media leak would not only threaten his life (being third in line for the throne) but also the lives of the men he leads....

I have deep respect for any royal who can get off their ass and do their duty for 'queen and country'.
The last time a report came out of a royal engaging in combat was during the Falkland Wars (1982) when Prince Andrew flew helicopter missions in support of his fleet while in the Navy (I tried to Wiki it, but found scant info on his contributions there)....does anyone have anymore info on that?

For the Royalists on this board, or Brits in general, what is your opinion of one of the royal family serving in combat? (especially one known for hard partying)....

I think its great that he is setting an example, he's representing his kingdom very well and this is respected across the world, including by Muslims. He is also showing his enthusiasm for his country. He's found his own niche, instead of just being the spare red-head.

How many princes in the world fight on the front line among their troops? Not many is my guess. I wonder where the tradition stems from?

I guess this makes up for the flap over his wearing of a nazi uniform.

We don't have royalty in America. An aristocracy, sure, but no royalty.

It was really stupid of whoever in the media released the news that he was in Afghanistan and forcing his removal.

That'd be Matt Drudge. Really stupid? I dunno about that, but he's got the ethics of an alley cat.

I agree that it was a good choice for Harry to fight for his country. What is surprising is that the British media kept it under wraps for so long. I wonder how Drudge got a hold of the information.

I will go along with the ethics judgement, but would also include as stupid deliberately setting someone up for kidnapping/hostage-taking/killing.

Matt Drudge is absolute scum. I'd love to see him killed by the fellow in my avatar, my new hero. Mr. Green

What is all the who-ha about this. It's his job, he's there, with other soldiers, doing his job, which is what he's supposed to do, which is his job. Even if he's jabbing his bayonet into a dirty old cushion.

Skrew the media. Why interview him to find out "I'm no hero" Of course you're not. You're just doing your job. Your lineage would suggest that you shouldn't be there with the rest of the cannon fodder, but you are.

The Royal family in England is anachronistic. Great in the 1600-1900's but nowadays they are struggling to remain with the times, a little like the catholic church. They are a waste of money. The fact that it was only my elderly neighbour that bought the commemorative plates and tea cups with Diana's face or the Queen's jubilee highlights their purpose.

If he managed to find and have some kind of Ninja fight with Osama then I might be interested, and only if that was put on utube. Then again I might only give it two stars.

Well, no he isn't. That's the point. He's back home since the media blew his cover.

Good spot Ya-ta. He was there.

This happened last year. The media got hold of it. The decision was made for him not to go out. Did they stick a fake beard on him this time? Reminiscent of Jason Bourne, me thinks.

Yep, must be a real pain sitting round on a chez long and having someone wipe you. I think he wants to be like any other post-grad, sitting around smoking crackpipes, laughing at squirrels, chasing the dragon and sleeping with hoes. I'd give him more respect if he got a call centre job.
