|
|
hey now, fellow korean enthusiasts.
I'll be upping my expat cred at the end of March and moving to Seoul knowing next to nothing. here are some items i've resolved to bring.
I'm dying to hear from experienced persons what essential items I have haphazardly overlooked. Any and all information is wildly appreciated.
So far, ive got:
-clothing for all seasons
-toiletries (including ample deodorant)
-i-pod and i-pod dock
-laptop
-books/reading material
-electrical outlet conversion equipment
-nintendo wii (bad idea?)
what am I overlooking? I can't imagine how shoddy my list may be.
what are the top items expats wish they had thought of? |

Only if you are really, really big and know that you won't be able to get clothes your size here.

Do you have a favourite brand that you just can't live without? Otherwise Nivea and Dove are available.

-i-pod and i-pod dock |
Yes, they are expensive here.
Different voltage, different plug (2 pin here, 220V)

-books/reading material |
Teaching books or novels?
Kyobo has a pretty good selection nowadays, and you can always go to www.whatthebook.com, which has a store in Itaewon and an online shop.

You can buy 3-pin to 2 pin plugs here, as well as transformer.

No coomment.
The thing I would bring the most, at least to tie you over for the first few months, is your favourite snacks... some stuff just isn't available here and you might wish you had when you are feeling homesick. |

Clothing: If you already have it. Clothes can be found for cheap in Korea, but why spend money if you do have it.
Toiletries: Almost everything can be found her, especially in Seoul. Deodorant with is not also an anti-persperant is the only thing I don't often see, but there are import markets here that have it. (Bottom floor of Doota at Dongdaemun Stadium is one place).
Ipod, laptop, conversion equipment, etc: If you have it, then sure. If not, you can get them here.
Books: Once again, already have them? If not, you can get books here, too.
Wii: I have no idea if they sell that here.
Things I've imported (other than personal keepsakes like pictures): Frisbee, tent for camping (tents are crap or expensive here), clothing I've had that isn't available here (mostly my favorite style and brand of pants for comfort and souvenir shirts). |

Bring cash.
Also, definitely make room in your carry-on for an open mind.
Leave all expectations behind, no matter what kind of adapter you have they won't be compatible, thus making them useless.

Spices can be expensive here if you cook and they are easy to pack. |
