Travelling in May and want to buy a guidebook but i have read some negative reviews of Lonely Planets South East Asia on a Shoe String. Basically saying it isn't that helpful/relevant. Anyone here used it? Is it worth buying? Or can anyone recommend another SE Asia guidebook??

I thought it was alright, used it about 4 years ago and travelled through Thailand / Cambodia / Laos / Vietnam, gives you some useful history and info about the places, and recommends places to visit as "must-sees". I would use it again if I was doing it all over, as it prepares you for each town you're going through. But if you're just going to a couple of countries, say Thailand and Malaysia or something, then I would just get thinner giude books for those individual countries, as LPSEA shoestring is a hefty book! Also, take the accommodation recommendations and restaurants etc with a pinch of salt, I advise you just seek out your own places to stay on the internet and look around for restaurants when you get there yourself.
Enjoy it, I loved the place!
