My sister has just arrived in Korea two days ago and she has developed some kind of allergic reaction - red itchy skin and fever. She also has no appetite and I was wondering how much it would cost to take her to the doctor? Please help ASAP! |

Just go to the doctor, why is money a concern? |

Maybe severe jet-lag or perhaps she caught some kind of virus on the plane. I suggest you take her to a doctor. I think there is one in Iatewon that speaks English. Good luck and I hope she recovers soon. |

Funny! ... but I'm glad you're not my sister!
Just go.. it won't be that expensive.. A regular Korean doc visit including medication should be under 40 bucks -- of course, YMMV |

SOON-CHUN-HYANG hospital in Hannam-dong has an International clinic, decent English-speaking doctor and modern equipment. 709-9158. (hospital switchboard 709-9114) |

Really depends on whether they'll prescribe any tests. I vaguely remember paying about 25K for the consultation, and tests are extra but not terribly expensive (adding maybe another $10 to the tab?). I would have at least 50K ready.
If your friend can speak some Korean, the Int'l clinic above the pharmacy in HBC is okay, but you'll have to go somewhere else if there's need for tests etc. |

It is your sister who is sick right?
She is your guest here in Korea right?
She's a stranger to Kore right?
You are allowed sick days right? |

It's his sister who is sick, not him. Can't take a sick day if you're not actually sick. That would be grossly irresponsible. |

Well then a mental health day would be appropriate. |

No insurance the cost of the consult will be (at a normal, Korean hospital/clinic) less than 10k won and meds will probably run 10-20k.
If you go to an international clinic you can expect to pay 3-10x that much for the same service. |

Ttompatz,
There is no extra surcharge for the use of our international clinic.
There is the consultaion fee and medication fee only.
It is a little more expensive than regular clinics, but by no means 2-3 times higher. |

If you're still in Suncheon, there are clinics and doctor's offices and hospitals all over the place. There's one right next to the KEB in New Downtown. There's a hospital a two-minute taxi ride from NC Department Store. 순천 성가롤로병원, http://www.stcarollo.or.kr/info/info01.asp?menu1=1
Just take the day off and take your friend.
For future reference, if you need a doctor or clinic, just walk into any pharmacy and ask where to go. |
