What are you doing for white day? I'm at a public school working with a fair number of women. A card and candy for each? A communal gift? I'm in the sticks so I can't just buy a bunch of donuts. Everyone is pretty good to me and I'd like to continue to foster good will and make myself as normal a member of the faculty as a foreigner can be. I'm also lazy when it comes to these things though. What's a reasonable gesture? Alright, what's the least I can get away with and still come out looking good?

i thought white day was the guys day to reciprocate to the girl who gifted him on valentines day. whatever the girl spent, the guy is to spend 3x as much.

so...unless they gave you something for valentines day, would you be disrespecting their culture by giving them something? Smile

Shocked Oh my God, am I in trouble then... Embarassed

My gf said she doesn't want anything for White Day (this Friday) but I took that to mean she does...I was thinking a decent dinner and a DVD at home, but it looks like I'll have to splurge on the dinner and take her shopping now, especially since she paid for hwae last weekend...

Just buy a box of chocolates for the female teachers. If you have a girlfriend, you should get her a box for herself and a small gift.

I used to like getting cards and chocolates from my female students on White Day and once me and my ex-gf took a late-night Han River cruise that had a live band and dinner- very romantic.

But I used to tease my students by saying that my favorite 'romantic holiday' was Black Day. I think it is held on April 15th. It is the day when all the single people who have no gfs or bfs go to a chinese restuarant and eat jajjang-myun as a way to show the world that they celebrate another year of lonliness.

Interestingly, I got alot of offers to go on dates during White Day so I didn't have to celebrate Black Day.

They're pretty serious about the whole "on White Day BOYS give GIRLS candy, not chocolate." Otherwise, last year I didn't notice it being much of a big deal. I got lots of candy from students, but I think most people don't think it matters that much...

And I believe Black Day is actually April 14, and the black noodle soup is to get a husband/boyfriend in the upcoming year, or something. Either way, I too told everyone it was my favorite day. I mean, why not embrace the fun of being single?? Razz
