|
|
| I have a Linksys router in my apart sending me an excellent signal which my laptop receives, but which I can't use because it is WPA encrypted. It is hooked to a desktop in the upstairs apart. The guy who hooked this up is long gone and nobody knows what the key is. How do I remedy this situation so I can use this signal? |

| There is a small hole in the back for resetting. Stick something small in there (like a paper clip wire) and push it in and hold for 10 seconds or so. That will do a hard-reset and set it back to normal factory settings. |

OK. I did that and the light ,on the front(where it says Cisco systems)which used to shine white,is now yellow.I guess that means no signal being sent because my laptop doesn't tell me it has a signal from it,anymore.
Sob ! Now what ?! |

| Now my laptop says it's getting an excellent signal(I guess I didn't wait long enough). But I can't get online and that light is still yellow. I've switched back to a neighbouring signal which goes from good to low to gone ! |

Did you hold it in for at least (or a bit more than) 10 seconds?
That should have worked.... the reset takes about a minute to actually go all the way through.
Make sure your internet cable is plugged into the right jack in the back.
The router name you scan for will have changed to a default name. It should now be Linksys.
One thing you could check for is make sure to clear out all previous wifi profiles in windows. You could have the Linksys name blocked as a profile from an earlier encounter. If you go in and clear out all of those profiles, and do a new search for wifi routers, you should find it. |

| Disconnect it from the power when you hold the button. |

| Weird things can also conflict with routers when you hook them up to some signals. For example, if I put a router on my uni line, it won't work in WPA mode at all. It has to be set as WEP. If I have it in WPA, you can't even get the signal. This has happened with at least two different models of routers. I don't know why. |

| Well, thanks for all the suggestions. I have reset the router so now my laptop says the signal is unsecured. I thought that was the end to my problem, but I still can't get online with that excellent signal even though it says it is connected. |

So you can see the router.
It sounds like a WAN side issue now.
Check you Modem try resetting that. |

Depending on what type of internet connection you have being piped into your house, you may need to change the router from Dynamic IP to a static one, or some other setting.
The internet line coming into our house is like that. We are assigned a certain IP address (we had to call to get it) and type it into the router, along with some other codes. |

Try going directly to the modem with a cable.
If that works then you need to run the setup software on the router so the
router can bcome an alias of your computer.
If it doesn't work call your ISP for 서 바 스 . |
