Passport Wrangles Cast U.S. Visa Waiver into Limbo
The National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee on Tuesday failed to pass a revision to the passport law aimed at introducing electronic passports, casting Koreas perpetual ambition to join the U.S. visa waiver program into limbo again. It is unclear whether the revision can be approved by an extra house session this month.

Anchor babies? That's such a trite and old term. And it's fairly irrelevant now--and has been for years--since minors can no longer sponsor anyone into the US. |

Why is this good news? I'm an American and I think we should take all the immigrants we can get... |

I'm all for quality immigrants who can improve an American society that sorely needs it. Like Friedman said in "The World Is Flat," all Ph.D.s should come with a green card attached. However, we've got enough problems with our porous borders and poorly assimilated lower classes that I don't really think we should encourage more immigrants. It's an un-American stance, I know, but don't we have enough of your poor and huddled masses? Is it really worth the risk and strain to allow everybody in the country when few will be able to contribute anything in their or the next generation? Hasn't it reached the breaking point? Ah, but daring to question the effectiveness of multiculturalism will have you branded a KKK member, and if you're anyone important you'll have to go on all the talk shows and apologize.
There are some problems with Korean immigration to the US, but they aren't our biggest problem. This isn't a promising trend: http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7010007980 |

those around me in the philippines wish those buses of kimchi eaters never set foot on their island. They don't bother me so much, but they sure like to yell in the faces of every bus boy, waitress, jeepney driver, store clerk, etc....
I could see them doing the same thing in hawaii, yeah, that would be a mess for you. |

Well, the thing is that people in Hawaii wouldn't take the kind of crap that the Filipinos do. This is because of the economic difference. Koreans would not be able to do it in Hawaii because people there won't take someone yelling in their face and, unlike the Phillipines, laws are enforced in Hawaii. |

F*ck the Koreans. If they want to make it more difficult to get into my country--on themselves--I'd say they saved me the trouble.
...And only losers buy Korean cars outside of Korea. |

I would say, in all fairness, if Korea were to reciprocate the visa waiver by allowing Americans to go to Korea and work freely as the Koreans would do in the US, especially as English teachers.....I would say "let them come......."
otherwise; indeed, it is a GREAT day for the US |

What I wanna know is how come, if the relationship between the US and the UK is so 'special', it seems that the one place either nationality cannot work in is the other?
Everyone always goes on about how easy it is for foreigners to make a living in the US, and its obvious how easy it is in England, but we go work in each others countries? Not a chance |

The visa waiver program applies to tourist visas and does not allow anyone to work in the U.S. legally. In fact Korea already has a visa waiver program that allows U.S. citizens in without a visa. It is the U.S. that has not yet reciprocated. |

One of my buddies has been in America his whole entire life. He doesn't have a driver's license because he has four or five Driving Under the Influence convictions. He still drives his car, works, gets laid, etc. |
