Hi,

My browser is running very slowly when I'm using azureus. I've been using it for about two months without any problems, but now everything slows down when I'm browsing and quite often I get the page cannot be found message. There are no problems when I turn azureus off.

I have a brand new quadcore computer so I know it's not an issue with the processor or ram.

Any advice would be much appreciated

Jamesy

my guess is your ISP recognizes the internet traffic when you are downloading torrents (from the port numbers) and throttles your bandwidth.

Try encrypting the data (if your torrent client allows it) and change your port numbers or have them randomly reset themselves when the client starts.

It may also be your anti-virus / firewall anti-spyware software / toolbar slowing it to a crawl as it scans the inbound files.

when trouble shooting start with the easiest thing first

try limiting your download speed and make sure your upload is only set to 80% of your max. This will tell you if you are using all your available bandwidth.

disable 3rd party firewalls (ie zone alarm). what antivirals are you using? make sure that as ttompaz suggested that it is not scanning every packet

provided you are not using a mac give utorrent ago

If there is no slow down when using utorrent then you know that azureus is the problem.

try a different browser opera/firefox

Change ports...that will fix your problem.

I get that problem too when I have my torrents leeching bandwidth like crazy.

thanks guys - I'll give your suggestions a go and let you know how it works out. I have heard a lot of good things about utorrent so I'll maybe give that a bash too.

is it using all your upload bandwidth.

If it's maxing out that will *beep* up your surfing pleasure.

i agree.

azureus uses more resources and is bloated because it runs on a separate layer written in java. M$ don't like no cup of java.

Thanks for all the advice.

I uninstalled azureus and installed utorrent and everything seems to be running like a dream. I particularly like the feature in utorrent that randomly selects a port everytime you start it up.

Azureus had too many other things going on - a bit of the nero disease. It's nice to see that they still makes programs of the simple variety, like utorrent and VLC player.

Anyway thanks again guys

^ U torrent can also be used from the office. You can access your computer and tell it what to download from work.

Now that is handy
