|
|
Those of us who had to line up to apply for our ARC yesterday found out that the hospital we were directed to failed to do a sufficiently thorough drug screening.
Now I hear that we have to go back and get yet another drug test at our own expense. Can anyone confirm this? It seems pretty far-fetched and my co-teacher hadn't been contacted, so hopefully there's nothing to it.
...
post edited to be less whiny.

Refuse to do it at your own expense. They guffed it up, they can pay for their mistakes.
Be polite but firm. You should NOT pay for their mistakes.

SMOE sent you to a hospital of their choice, you paid for a drug test, you got the results and now they are inadequate?
Who said they are inadequate? SMOE or immigration?
Either way, demand to know why they are inadequate. If SMOE is telling you this, tell them it's not your fault and they need to take up the payment or have the hospital retest you for free since they fucked up.
If it's immigration, find out why it is inadequate and demand the hospital to do their job adequately. |

Give them your hat and tell them to *beep* it.
Seriously. It's the whole 'foot in the door' thing. Kick their foot out before the door opens up wider. |

SMOE didn't tell the hospital the right drug test that is required by immigration. So the hospital did their own drug test...but not the one required by immigration. A pox on SMOE for not following through and a pox on the hospital for not thinking "oh waeguk saram, they must need the drug test that immigration requires, else why the **** would they be here right now". It's SMOE's requirement that we apply for our ARC by the 14th, not the govt. It is SMOE's fault that they told them the wrong test. Any recourse here?
Witty comments about going elsewhere are great, though. Keep those coming. Maybe you can show them to your gerbils before they crawl into your rectum. |

Yeah, refuse...it's not in the contract. But tell them no problem if they're paying. |

Tell them you'll go only if your co-teacher also goes with you and takes the same test. |

I was just told TODAY (March 13th) drug tests are no longer required - can anyone vouch for this or hear anything about it? |

Where did you hear this? I doubt the drug tests will go away anytime soon.

I remember reading about the E-2 visa regs being "delayed" or something for those entering before March 15th.
About the drug testing, I've said this before, Korea should be concerned with people doing drugs in Korea, not testing people when they get off the plane. Why? Because truly harmful drugs stay in the system for about a day or aren't easily tested for. Korea is only going to catch people who smoked pot in another country. That isn't breaking Korean law, affecting their teaching ability in Korea or making them any kind of threat to people or children. If they want to keep people safe, ban them from drinking alcohol in Korea, driving cars or hiking up steep mountains. Even test people after they have been in Korea awhile to see who can't stay away from physically non-addictive marijuana. At least that is concerning Korean law. |

I have to agree with you on that. I think it would make more sense for the Koreans to check people for drugs AFTER they've been in the country for a little while for the reasons you've stated. I was concerned about this as my diet in the past included hemp products and was worried this would get me booted.
I think co-teachers should also be tested, but then again my say doesn't mean too much. |

the person who told me this works at the Consulate where I picked up my new E2; he just laughed and said don't worry about it.
I smiled and said OK
I posted it here because maybe the miscommunications that are happening are causing too many problems and so it's being canceled ? |

All very true, and common sense to a reasonably sane person. However let's not forget this is Korea, dealing with foreigners. |
