1) get a PS2 modded. I've read in many threads of people having it done, but haven't found any specific directions. It would save some wandering around aimlessly time!

2) Get a power block fixed. A friend who just arrived in Korea plugged in his speakers and blew the block. I'm sure it just requires a new fuse or something, anyone know of a place who would do this quickly and cheaply?

Much thanks!

Can't help with the PS2 modding question

BUT

Your friend has HOOPED his speakers. The power here is 220 volts AC and it would have burned out the transformer rather than just a fuse (circuit breakers are more common and unlikely in a power supply).

Good news is that they are cheap to replace. Probably just as cheap as or cheaper than replacing the power transformer in his current speakers.

ttompatz, thanks for the reply. I had asked about getting it fixed because when I (in a moment of brilliance) blew the power block on my newly purchased Wii, I was able to get it fixed in the gaming section at IPark. I was hoping something similar is possible with the speakers.

Anyone else have any ideas?

I still don't believe that people come here and just expect things to work and plug them in.

There was that post previously about the Wii and how some of the others on the induction had done the same.

edit

It was you. Razz

What brand of speakers were they? Anything fancy and worth trying to save?

Don't know right now what the brand was, but he's pretty set on trying to get them fixed. It sounds as if the speakers should be just fine, he had plugged the power block into the mains, but not yet connected it to the subwoofer...

Personally I'm more interested in the PS2 modchipping. Anyone?

there's no need for an actual hardware mod. just buy this and hook it up to your usb port.

where to buy online:

more info on the firmware hack that works on the memor32 ps2 usb memory card.
