I'll be leaving for Korea in a few days and I was just wondering about the banking situation. Someone told me that it would be wise to open an international account so that every time you access it from Korea you're not hit with a huge fee. Is this a good idea? What is the best way to transfer your money from Korea to home?

The banks over here are modern and operate in fairly straight forward enough manner. I've found mine to be pretty efficient etc when it comes to sending money out of the country although it helps if there's someone in the branch that speaks a little English or you Korean etc

The only problem I'm having with mine (Nonghyup) is in respect of setting up online banking, which for some reason seems unnecessarily complicated.

What complications did you experience in setting up online banking with Nonghyup? I personally found it easy to set up with them ... As long as I went to the correct branch ... Because not every branch does the International Banking transactions ...

KEB is better for International Banking transactions. You can set up an additional overseas remittance acct. and do your wires from your computer.

Avoid Woori Bank at all costs. Very high fees. We get hit with an additional 3 percent on all international ATM transactions (the wife, I mean).
