Has anyone had any experience being asked to formulate your own contract? As in, the director doesn't have enough time or simply isn't up to the task, etc. And does it matter if it ends up being fairly informal as long as you both sign it? Confused

If the director isn't going to put in the energy to make a contract himself, do you think he will both to read & understand whatever it is you put together let alone honor it?

I would recommend going somewhere else.

Corporal, you are married to a Korean, why not get a F-2-1 visa and then you can work or not and how much you please within immigration rules. No more having to leave the country. as far as I know if you are working less than 20 hours, immigration will approve it and you don't need to do any real paperwork. bonus for you - school does not "own" you or control you.

I once received a contract that was so badly written that I didn't think seriously about taking the job. When I didn't get back to the school, they emailed me again and asked if I was still interested in the position. When I replied that I wasn't comfortable with the contract, they asked me to send them a contract I could live with.

I did just that and ended up having a great three year teaching experience at that school. I learned that in Korea, it's better to consider a contract as a tool for clarifying expectations and facilitating communication.

If you have a good feeling about this school that has asked you to draft the contract, EFL-Law.com has a sample contract at:
