Russia sparks Cold War scramble by flying to Guam!
Looks like Russia is at it again, trying to prove to the world that they are all strong and powerful.
So Russia sent some of her bombers all the way to the middle of the Pacific Ocean to Guam, USA, which was conducting a massive American military exercise at the time, to show off her power.
Give it up Putin! From refusing to extradite a murderer (Litvinenko affair), to planting a flag at the bottom of the Artic, to (allegedly) bombing Georgia, the world is sick and tired of your country's troublesome
behavior.

Russia Sparks Cold War Scramble
Russian bombers have flown to the US Pacific island of Guam in a manoeuvre reminiscent of the Cold War era.
Two Tu-95 turboprops flew this week to Guam, home to a big US military base, Russian Maj Gen Pavel Androsov said, a story confirmed by the US.
They "exchanged smiles" with US pilots who scrambled to track them, he added.
The sorties, believed to be the first since the Cold War ended, come as Russia stresses a more assertive foreign policy, correspondents say.
The flight is part of a pattern of more expansive Russian military operations in recent weeks, says BBC diplomatic correspondent Jonathan Marcus.
Gen Androsov said the strategic bombers had flown 13 hours from their base in the Russian Far East during the exercise.
"It has always been the tradition of our long-range aviation to fly far into the ocean, to meet [US] aircraft carriers and greet [US pilots] visually," he said at a news conference.
"Yesterday [Wednesday] we revived this tradition, and two of our young crews paid a visit to the area of the base of Guam," he said.
"I think the result was good. We met our colleagues - fighter jet pilots from [US] aircraft carriers. We exchanged smiles and returned home," he added.
A spokesman for the Pentagon confirmed that the Tu-95s were spotted heading to Guam, adding that US fighter readied themselves to repel them.
"We prepared to intercept the bombers but they did not come close enough to a US Navy ship or to the island of Guam to warrant an air-to-air intercept," the spokesman said.
During the Cold War, Soviet bombers regularly flew long-haul missions to areas patrolled by Nato and the US.
The bombers have the capability of launching a nuclear strike with the missiles they carry. |

I'm glad the Russians are standing up to George W Bush Yankee imperialist juggernaut. I've had enough of killing for corporate greed, blood for oil and Abu Graib. St Petersburg is a wonderful city and a great place to live. |

The love affair with the the Tsarist tradition is beating louder and louder these days.....
Maybe we should all be a bit less worried about wide-eyed Americans trying to spread democracy to tribal Arab/Muslim societies and a bit more focused on the world's largest country, which has a very obvious tradition of conquering/subjugating/and intimidating all of its neighbors....... |

Putin is a nobody. GWB's dad was the head of the CIA. Putin was mere agent.
Consider
-GWB runs Gitmo death camp
-Faluja where we proclaimed all males to be insurgents and caramelized them
The Europeans are sissies too
-We dropped nuclear weapons on people on purpose. The Russians only managed a leaky reactor in Ukraine.
-We put people of Japanese ancestry in concentration camps because they were different from us
-We don't let gay people get married.
To be honest, I hope the best for Russia, it looks like they have a good future. I'm Slav looking, I just have to keep my mouth shut and I can fit right in. If they wanna bomb DC, they can be my guest. |

I know that the Russian people are proud and dynamic. They talk big, act big and do big. Americans just get fat, get pregnant when they are 16 and don't finish high school. Cuba, a Russian ally provides free health care for all and North Korea has a 100% literary rate.
I'm looking into the emigration thing. I'm might be rat, but your on a sinking ship. At least the Russians won't hate be because I'm White like British people do. |

I was referring to the fact that Russians had many concentration camps on a scale much larger than Americans and much much more grim.
Also russia has its share of oil, which is in the hands of few. Corporate greed you might call it. |

Russians Didnt Pass Guam, U.S. Says
By REUTERS
WASHINGTON, Aug. 10 (Reuters) The Pentagon on Friday rejected a claim by the Russian military the day before that the Russians had resumed bomber flyovers in American territory, saying that the planes did not fly near Guam or close enough to any American ships to prompt an order to intercept them.
According to a Pentagon spokesman, Lt. Cmdr. Chito Peppler, two Russian aircraft were detected Wednesday flying south over the Pacific toward Guam. Another Defense Department official said the Russian bombers were about 305 miles from Guam and about 100 miles from any American aircraft.
On Thursday, the head of long-range aviation in the Russian Air Force, Maj. Gen. Pavel Androsov, said Russia had resumed cold war-style missions to areas patrolled by the United States.
He said that a Russian strategic bomber flew over the United States naval base at Guam and that American aircraft were scrambled to track the Russian aircraft. He added that the Russian and American pilots exchanged smiles. |

U.S. jets escort Russian bombers off Alaska coast
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Two U.S. Air Force F-15s escorted two Russian Bear long-range bombers out of an air exclusion zone off the coast of Alaska, U.S. military officials said Wednesday.
U.S. radar picked up the Russian turbo-prop Tupolev-95 planes about 500 miles off the Alaska coast.
The U.S. fighters from Elmendorf Air Force Base were dispatched to meet the bombers and escorted them out of the area without incident, the officials said.
The United States maintains the air exclusion zone off the coast of Alaska, barring unidentified aircraft or aircraft that don't file flight plans inside that area.
The last case of Russian aircraft approaching the U.S. coastline or ships in the Pacific was in February.
Then, four Bear bombers flew near the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz, with one of them flying about 2,000 feet from the Nimitz's deck.
Russia's Defense Ministry said at the time there was no violation of flight regulations during the incident. A ministry official described the flights as standard operating procedure for air force training.
Meanwhile, U.S. military officials say the incidents are not a concern. They say it's the Russian military flexing its ability and presence.
