Hi All,
Ok, first I get a dental check in Australia and they tell me I have cavities to fill he used an X ray. Then I come to Korea and see a dentist who says "no problem".
Then I did an eyesight check at home in Australia and they say I have a stigamtism, if it's affecting me, get glasses.
On the eye test here they said I do not need glasses.
Next I did a hearing check in Australia. I have a hearing loss, 'quite significant' that might need future treatment.
Come back to Korea, I had a hearing check in my last medical check for my visa. If there was anything wrong they didn't tell me.
Anyone seeing a pattern here?
Are professionals back home just ripping us off or is Korea more relaxed with it's standards?
So far here has been a lot better...I like not wasting my money but I have also heard of a lot of misdiagnosis here in Korea....one teacher misdiagnosed with cancer until they were told it was false.
So who to trust? I say none of them. I think 3 opinions will be my future minimum. |

I would certainly back Australia over Korea anyday with a medical diagnosis. |

I've had quite good experiences with Korean doctors for the most part but definitely trust Western doctors more.
That said, I've encountered plenty of crap doctors back in Australia. I also think the standards are a lot higher in the West and they tend to be more thorough though not all doctors are. |

Nope, look elsewhere. I was misdiagnosed twice then put on two extended courses of heavy anti-biotics which had permanent damaging side effects to my system. Neither doctor even made an examination. I finally found out what was the matter when I vacationed in Thailand and a doctor did a quick visual examination and then prescribed some meds which cleared the problem (then ongoing for 6 months) up in about 2 days. |

yeah, i don't really trust the doctors here...they go to way less medical school than western doctors...also, where did you get your eyes checked? If it was at the shop where they sell glasses then those are not eye doctors...they just operate the fancy eye machine thing.... |

The answer is obvious. There was a lot wrong with you back home. You came to Korea and I bet you ate some Kimchi...didn't you?
ADMIT IT. You ate kimchi and all you ills are gone.
Duh! |

Cheating/bribes in higher education is more common here...most probably aren't involved in that, but some are.
Also, asking questions are often misinterpreted as questioning a doc's authority, integrity, social position or whatnot. If I can't freely ask questions, I'm justified in feeling uncomfortable. |
