Hi guys,
I had decided to reformat my HDD and do a fresh install of windows XP Pro sp2. I am running on a Dell XPS m1210 laptop.
Everything went smoothly, and XP installed fine.
I had downloaded all the necessary drivers from Dell.com and installed them.
Everything works as it should except the audio. When i attempt to install the Audio driver it says "Audio Device not found"
As far as I know, on my laptop the audio card is integrated into the mobo. So i went into BIOS to make sure it was enabled. Low and behold it was not there????
So far i have uninstalled and reinstalled all audio drivers with no success. I have also reinstalled XP, and started fresh with no success. I have also tried another version of XP, windows XP home, with no success.
No matter what i try i can't get the damn thing to detect my audio card, it just vanished on me.
I checked dell support forums, and all I could find was info telling me to do the things i had already done.
Anyone else ever experienced this issue? Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Please help. It really starting to frustrate me.
Thanks guys. |

You may need to flash the BIOS. |

More likely got the wrong mobo driver package so it doesn't see the audio
OR
didn't reboot between the mobo driver install and the audio card install (again, it doesn't think there is an audio system)..
Best bet is to send an e-mail to Dell customer support. They may not be the fastest in the world (especially with the downsizing of late) but they may be able to tell you what you did wrong or what you need to do to fix it. |

.inf files?
They should be installed before any other drivers, IMO.
Here under "chipset". Dell lists it as "optional" importance...
But you say you installed everything already, right? No need to flash the BIOS...there is nothing in the latest BIOS that relates to sound. It's an unnecessary risk. |

ttompatz: I insatlled the most recent mobo drivers. Just downloaded them and installed in the proper order.
demophobe: I installed the Chipset drivers 2nd, right after the system software.
The problem, is windows is not recognizing the sound card. |

Do you not have the system recovery disks for your notebook?
The newest set is not always the correct set. They sometimes update the mobo and drivers set within a model run on a computer so what you download is NOT necessarily the set for YOUR computer.
You have 2 choices.
Format and FULL re-install or
ASK DELL.

With their current economic problems they probably wouldn't answer the phone anyway.
Send an E-mail. It won't be fast but you should get an answer and some help. |

Are Dell in trouble again?
Is this a repeat of the 90's when they went bust?
Call the 800 number using Skype. |
