Going out with the teachers and principals, eating free food and drink. I'm drunk and so full my stomach is gonna explode, and it was all free.

Razz Razz Razz

When they're on the job, do you grab their heads by their ridiculous pixie sideburns? Laughing

Being a one-man operation.

However, if I screw up I have to reprimand myself. I'm usually pretty lenient, though.

For me, the best part is the free accommodations and the wonderfully friendly and generous Korean people. Oh, also the very inexpensive health insurance! Smile

All the others are good things, but one of the best things, if you teach adults, is meeting people with life experiences that are completely different from a classroom teacher's.

In what ways have Koreans been "wonderfully friendly and generous" towards you, specifically?

I feel that way, too. I have learned so much from the people I meet.

I don't want to boast, but I am really lucky that truly accomplished and worldly people pay me for my time to sit down and talk with them. I feel like I learn from them at least as much as they pick up from my banter.

I don't know the future, or when I will leave Korea, but it has been a hell of an interesting ride so far. And I know I'm a better person than the one who first arrived here.

Korea pisses me off sometimes, and I have stories from the early days that are off-the-hook messed up, but I could never say my coming here was a bad decision. And I think that like myself, it does get better for most people that stick it out.

(That was caniff's morning inspirational message to himself. Thank you for listening.)

He he, big staff piss-up at my school last night, too. This time it was the student president's parents treating us (or paying off whoever rigged the vote?).

Speaking of which, where's that cool Adjossi Stories thread? I got a bud teaching advanced uni writing and I thought your examples and topics were great. That was an adult writing class as well, right? I think your examples, ideas and topics would help him out.

As for the OP, I would say somethin' like watching my students' English skills improve as well as seeing them develope into intelligent, wonderful human beings....but that too missamericamalarkyeventhoughitstrue.

Having my kids bring in their little sister/brother, and having them act the part of the big brave hero... speaking confidently to the strange whitie. And the whitie responds, almost as if it understands these strange noises. The little one's eyes getting bigger and bigger... "Oowa!"

So by the time they hit school, they are totally pumped about learning english, like their big sis/bro. And the big sis/bro gets a total high, and struts around all day.
