Hey--

I'm working in Korea and am going to be travelling to the US with my small children. Has anyone ever bought travel insurance for a trip back to the US (I'm American). I'm going for a couple of months. A large deductible insurance is fine, but just in case something major were to happen, I'd hate to be there with no coverage.

Can anyone recommend any places to get it or have any experience with this? Thanks!

I'm wondering the exact same thing.

I've been searching on www.squaremouth.com/travel-insurance/index.pl

Medex looks like it might be a good deal for me. Does anyone have experience with this company?

(Edit- fixed link!)

Hey thanks,

I checked out the website, you're right --MedEx looks good, it's much cheaper than the others, if it says it's secondary coverage, does that mean you'd have to have another policy as well? I read through the conditions but I'm not really sure about all the lingo and I think it's giving me a headache. grrr...

Guess I have to keep looking, as I don't have any primary coverage...

SquareMouth also says:
Quote:
What is the difference between primary and secondary coverage? Why does it matter?

Travel insurance policies offer either primary or secondary medical coverage. In the event of a medical claim or problem, primary coverage generally ignores your other insurance and pays the claim, if its for a covered service. Secondary coverage usually requires that you first go to your primary plan and request payment. With secondary coverage, you may be required to pay a deductible and may be asked to exhaust coverage from your other existing polices before filing a claim. In the event you do not have additional insurance coverage in existence, most secondary insurance becomes primary unless otherwise specified.
