So I am fairly new to driving in Korea and sometimes I park in the wrong place. I have had a few parking tickets in the past and have paid them. If I am wrong, so be it, I will pay the 40K.

Well today I parked my car to do some shopping. I came back two hours later to find that I had two parking tickets on my car. Like I said I will pay the ticket if I am wrong... but two?? Shouldn't they atleast give me time to find the first, realize my error and move my car? Also, both tickets indicated different reasons as to why I got the ticket.

How will I explain this one to the husband! Rolling Eyes

This may not be relevant, but I just took a cursory look at the warning sign by the handicapped parking at Emart and I think it said (in Korean) that illegally parked cars can be reticketed after 2 hours. (I'll take a closer look next time I go.)

I don't know the laws, but who issued the ticket? Emart? The police?

I bet you can never pay it and be ok either way, but that's a guess.

Tickets? For parking in Korea? You can park on the sidewalk in my neighborhood... bus lanes, middle of traffic... it's all game. At Emart I have to stand in the middle of the street because there are so many cars parked illegally.

I just got a speeding ticket today in my new car.. never got them in my old car because I bent my license plate under the fender so no way to be caught with the cameras.. but the new car well cant do it.. might need to buy oneof those fake ones to cover it ahhahahahaa

anyway regarding your tickets.. this happened to me in 2004 up the back there by helios near the swiss restaurant.. anyway came back to find 2 tickets and for different reasons.. I left them unpaid for 4 years hahahaha
actually still havent paid them I think hahahha
I did get a warning to pay my buslane ticket I got in 2002 about 2 months ago, they said If I didnt pay it they would repo my car hahahaha
I dont no, guess the police and government just want more money! like gas is not expensive enough! yeah like those speeding cameras are there to save lives! hahahahaha
I HATE IT!! but what can I do..
ofr course I wont pay it maybe for about 10 years will see.. haahahha

I was informed by the public office in Kangnam that the car that I had bought had some unpaid tickets on it from one of the previous owners from several years ago. The PO can put a "seize" on the vehicle and take it if they choose to, possibly.

They were trying to make me pay the tickets when I was changing registration. I refused and put up a fuss. They finally reluctantly gave me the registration. The tickets and "seize" remain on the car, however. Who knows about Korea sometimes Rolling Eyes .

That was my initial reaction, too. I'm glad to hear that they give tickets but I don't believe it where I live. Why do drivers here insist on parking directly in front of crosswalks? I can't even ride my bicycle up the curb because of that. I tried putting a trash can there to discourage it but someone always seems to move it back.

Anyway, does anyone know of it is possible to fight a parking ticket here (like in NYC)? Just curious because I used to do that for a living.

Next time you apply for a work visa or renew your current sojourn, you'll definitely be denied.

Me? because of a parking ticket when my husband is Korean? Somehow I don't think they will kick me out of the country for an unpaid parking ticket! haha

I was parked on a side street with many other cars. I was not blocking a cross walk or a bus stop. It bothers me too when people do that. My husband said the parking office has a quota they have to meet. So basically they are lazy 99% of the time and then one day they go crazy ticketing every car they can find. He said he will go to the Gu office on Monday and sort it out. Apparently you can only be ticketed once per day for parking in the same location. He said they also have to take a picture when they issue a ticket. So if you park over night then I guess you can technically get two tickets. But I wasn't parked over night.

Also, it is very interesting how they give tickets. It says that I have gotten a fine and have 10 days to contest it. It doesn't say on the ticket how much or even where to pay it. I guess they mail that part to me.

Nah. Read the regulation. You're screwed. Don't you know the law? You can be incarcerated until the ticket is paid.

Do you have any links or personal testimony of this? It sounds way to extreme to be true.

Definitely contest it! I'd like to go with you if you do. At least let us know the outcome.

So my husband called the Gu office.

The result... too bad, so sad... pay.

My husband is going to go there tomorrow.

I will let you know what happens.

Don't pay it, contest it!

I admit I know nothing about how parking tickets work here, but in NYC I used to fight them and won reductions or dismissals on 2/3 of thousands. That's why I am really interested in seeing how they do it here.

Do you know how much the fine is yet if found guilty?
