I have been here for a couple years working in the hagwon system and am ready to move on to something that better suits me. I was certified in the US and taught there for a few years prior to coming here. My problem is that my current contract ends at the end of May (a non-hiring period for public schools). If anyone can give some helpful info on how to research positions and apply, I would be grateful. Thanks so much!

Public schools do hire all year round. Not all positions are filled. Usually the more rural areas go unfilled but also many people quit or run from their schools(many reasons for I'm sure). March and September are the main hiring dates but I've met a few teachers who have stated mid semester and work at good schools.

If you have a US teacher's cert you could try a private school or a Uni(not sure if they hire mid semester). Contact EPIK, GEPIK or SMOE for public schools.

What kind of age group do you want to teach? I may know of a middle school that may have an opening in that time frame.

I taught middle grade aged students in the US. I'm not opposed to older elementary or high school, however.

I must note that I want to teach in Seoul if that makes a difference. I have ties here (my gf) Very Happy .

Thanks! I am familiar with those public systems. Do you have a link for applying via them?

You'll be just in time for GEPIK orientation in April.
