At the bank. They have machine coin counters so you don't get the crap you would at home over a jar full of change. |

Just did it yesterday. Took in jars of 10 won and 50 won pieces. Got 30,000 won. |

just be careful about random garbage in your change jar... i went in thinking it would take 5 minutes or so, but the machine choked on a paperclip and i ended up spending 45 minutes in there! |

That must have been fun watching them fix it. |

Besides random stuff in the jar, be sure you don't have any foreign coins in there either. They get routed into the trash with the rest of the garbage! |

When I moved last October, I cashed in about 300,000 won in coin. Since then, I don't spend 1,000 oir 5,000 won notes either, dragging out man wons in each store. The money goes to my sons college fund. Since November 1, he has scored about 1,500,000 won. |

i was nice enough to separate coins when i left. i put each separate coin type into a ziploc bag.
one time i did it and there was a bunch of yen in there too and that buggered up the process for a good 20 minutes. it also won me some exasperated looks from bank employees who often tended to get pissy about me sending money or changing it into a foreign currency. especially yen. |

From 2002 to 2005, I saved all change from 10won coins to 5,000won notes and every 4 months, I would deposit them in the bank in a seperate account just for savings and it would always total between 180,000won and 340,000won for that period and before I left Korea, I had about 3 million won in the account just from saving my change |

I must have gotten screwed by my bank last fall when I took my coins in. I filled up a 2.3 liter milk container with 10, 50, 100, and 500 won coins. The total only came out to about 250,000 won |

Believe it or not, I would fill one of these in 4 months!
1 Bottle= 180,000won~ 340,000won, depending on the major denomination of the money thrown in it. |

I call BS. My salsa bottle is way smaller and yields a good bit more when cashed in. |

I call BS too.
I carried maybe 12 kilos of coin to the bank, and that was near 300,000.
It fit in a shoebox.
I would take a guess that the coin ratio would be
5 X 10
3 X 100
1 X 500
Given that, I think one of those full would need two people to carry, and be worth more than 1,500,000-2,000,000 won....especially with the new little 10 won coins. |

Ahh, I was assuming that is a 5 gallon bottle. If it's smaller, sorry, no frame of reference, just poor assumption. |
