I work at a public school outside of Gwangju. Got my E2 visa on November 4th. Want to switch to a hogwan in Seoul, probably not starting until May (or even after- probably pretty flexible).

Anyone?? I've heard so many different things... can't do it at all, can only do it after 9/12 months out of my contract, can do it simply as long as I get a release letter (which I think my principal will give me automatically)...

Oh, and I got the criminal background check done on the internet back in November.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

It's a definite maybe.

If you are located in the Gwangju in Gyeonggi province, then in theory, since you are leaving the public school AND you are in the Seoul immigration office's jurisdiction and it should be a fairly simple matter of LOR, cancel your current visa, get your exit order, hakwon applies for a new visa, you make your visa run and start work.

Having said that, well, theories are like backsides. Everyone has one.

You really won't know until you apply to move. Each immigration officer adjudicates the application in front of him the way he adjudicates the application in front of him when he adjudicates the application in front of him.

The possibility is a definite maybe.

If you came here on a plane, wait until after 6 months, so you dont have to pay that back. There's other stuff, like a letter of release.
You might want to find out also if you are subject to the new E-2 rules....CRC and crap like that cause they will take time.
