Original prices are a like or they're fake.
Even on the 1% odds that the above statement is false they're still a ripoff. Can I tell time on them any better than my $2.97 wal-mart watch? No? Not interested. |

Seriously.
Just hold them for me.

These watches were used to be the showcase display at my friend's jewelry shop and since she's changin' new designs in her showcase she's sellin' them all cheap. If you have the time and visit the jewelry shop in Pocheon city you can check if they're fake or not.
Thanks for all the comments and your time looking. |

Look, Josh, let me explain things to you. I don't question your sincerity. I think you believe the watches are real. Your "Friend" with the shop got you to post on a foreigner site hoping to unload some "Swiss" watches. No doubt she's a young, ambitious, attractive Korean lady...
I hate to break it to you...but this smells like the oldest trick in the book. Take a step back and re-survey the situation.

Hi Trevor,
Thanks for the advice^^...Anyways, she didn't ask me to post it. I offered to post it since I thought or I believed they're good. I bought all my wedding jewelries from her shop six years ago here in Seoul. And since then I've been a costumer and became a friend as well. She moved to Pocheon last month and it's part of the reason.
I think not everyone is looking for second hand goods here. This post is just for those who needed it though. I bought my watch from her shop at more than 800dollars six years back. Even if it doesn't make any difference between a 3,000won watch in tellin' time...it made me happy to know that my watch is expensive even if I have to walk home because I can't afford a bus fare!
You're right she's ambitious and beautiful but she's not young ... |

This may or not be a ripoff but this statement is ridiculous..

By that logic, I assume you wear the cheapest pants, shirt, shoes and everything else. |

I saw a classic Casio calculator watch in Itaewon selling for 35,000 won. Ridiculous, huh? I'd expect to pay 20,000 or less. But 35,000? |

I agree agoodmouse. It's no good to shop at Itaewon. My friend's shop was once in Home-ever Mapo. |

I beg to differ. It's not ridiculous at all, it's simple common sense.
The point is that there's no point in buying something expensive if it doesn't perform better. You could could consider looking better as performing better too, but you can get a good looking watch for $10 or $20. So after that you're getting a marginal increase in "performance" while paying a ridiculous amount more.
And no, I don't buy the cheapest "everything else," but I do generally buy at the best price/performance ratio. Usually that would be at the lowish end of brand names. They'll be like 10-15 bucks a shirt, but last 3x as long and look at least 2x as good as a $5 wal-mart T, hence two or three times the value. |

No sale, Josh. I will not settle for anything less than the very best, and we all know who makes the best watches in the world.
Does your buddy have any of those genuine Korean-made watches? |

I regard myself as "in-the-know" for watches.
I own about 8, ranging from two that cost 10,000 Won at Seoul Station to one I spent 900 Euro on at CDG airport. I've never bought a very expensive one.
"Swiss-made" implies, but doesn't guarantee quality. The Swiss like everyone else make cheap stuff too. I would be more interested in knowing the brand - the pictures that are posted are difficult to make out, and the tags attached to them are probably incorrect - One is for Elgin, which was never a Swiss watch, and another is for Benrus, who haven't made proper watches for 40 years.
My one piece of advice would be to go down and see them for yourself before making judgement on whether they're fake or real. Watch prices are often slashed to make space for new styles; check out Amazon.com right now, and you will see they are selling Swiss-made watches that RRP for between 500 and 1,000 dollars for about 20% of the price. Cheap doesn't mean fake.
As for the debate about whether a 500 dollar watch is better than a 3 dollar watch; that all depends on your priorities - I've often blown 500 in a month on drinking. would I prefer a nice watch instead of the hangovers? Sure. Is a CK sweater 5 times as good as a Giordano sweater? Probably not, but I will guarantee that these watches will still be ticking away when Walmart and all the watches inside it long gone. |
