It's pretty damn annoying how we often can't post messages on various national and local government websites.
I'd like to post up a query on the city hall website down here in Yeosu but, as I don't have a citizen ID number, I'm restricted to posting messages on the English web page rather than the standard Korean page.
Has anyone ever heard of plans to stream line the system so we can post messages and questions on normal Korean sites? Or will I only ever be able to post if I become a Korean citizen and change my name to Kim Chul Su? |

If you ever become a Korean citizen, damn! I plan on taking a trip to the moon for under 2000 dollars before I plan to be able to become a true citizen here |

No. That name is not going to work. It would have to be Yoo Suk Bum.
Sorry, I know it is a bad joke, but I couldn't resist. |

I don't remember where it was, but there was a gov't web site that you could register on so that your foreigner number would supposedly be recognized by Korean web sites. I registered on it a couple years ago and it worked on gov't web sites, but my number still remains largely rejected by non-gov't sites. |

I tried to get my daughter a skypass # last night. What a friggin ordeal. I wanted to register her as a Korean so we could use a family plan with her Korean mom. I have the feeling if she is registered as foreigner it will be close to impossile for her to get a family plan with her mother. So anyways, we have Korean ID# and fill in everything, but the damn site wouldn't accept our application because her name has more than 3 hangul characters in it. I was so frusterated. Even with a Korea ID # you can't register on websites if your hangul name is too long. Sweet Jesus I have had it with Korea and stupid set-ups. What if your surname was Hwang-bo (lots of Koreans have this name) or you have a Christian name like Kim Samuel. That is four characters in hangul. Are you just out of luck then too. What a gongshow this country is. Anything outside of the box is such a friggin' nightmare. Not to mention how much easier the English website for Korean Air is to navigate compared to the Korean version of the site. No wonder Koreans have such a hardtime getting things done. Sorry didn't mean to rant, but I guess I have some frustration built up. |
