How much percentage of income tax are Korean employers supposed to deduct from our salaries? Also, is the income tax deduction based on a 1 month salary? |

There's a tax calculator at this website:
http://nts.go.kr/eng/help/help_52.asp?top_code=H001&sub_code=HS05&ssub_code=HSE2
Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Drop the last three zeros in your income when inputing the figure into the caluclator.
Many hogwons, and even public schools, try to over withhold. Some unsavory directors pocket your taxes...others send your taxes where they should, but after you are gone they file and income tax return on your behalf, and pocket the refund.
THe typical hogwon tries to withhold 3.3%...this is way too high for typical salary of 2.1 to 2.3. |

I am currently going through this dilemma. Hagwon pocketed my tax money. According to NTS a hagwon employee should be paying 1.7% income tax. Most hagwons report you as an independent contractor and then charge you 3.3% and pocket the difference. Make sure you find out how much is being taken out and go to NTS to make sure you are registered as a taxpayer. These people are thieves! |
