So I've been looking at buying either a DS or a PSP for a while. I am somewhat ashamed to admit the only portable gaming device I've ever had was a Sega handheld, yes, Sega. Granted, I was like 7 at the time. This is what I've heard so far about the DS and the PSP: They can both play downloaded games. I've seen TONS of DS's here in Korea but maybe only one or two PSPs. Which would be better? I don't care about playing movies and I've heard the DS has more games. What are the pros and cons of both, specifically?
As for the QWERTY phone, I've found models in Korea on websites but every company my fiancee (Korean) and I go to say they no longer sell ANY QWERTY phones. I'm really disappointed by this. I bought the Helio Ocean before I came and I loved it but the bad battery. I want a new phone, with better battery life, but also has a QWERTY key pad so I can txt much easier. Does anyone have any ideas where to buy one? Used or new doesn't matter as long as the condition in good.
Thanks for the help. |

The DS is easily to get copied games for. No hacking of firmware is required. The games tend to be smaller (cartridge=size efficient) so you could fit more on a SD card.
The PSP has better graphics, and a bigger screen. Most of the games tend to be cut down PS2 lookalikes, while the games on the DS pretty much can't be found anywhere else.
The DS is more durable, with it's clamshell form factor. The two screens add up to a fair bit of realestate, with most games using one of the screens for maps and game feedback.
Overall I'd go for the DS, unless you like the standard console games. If you're into racing, fighting and so on then maybe the PSP.
There used to be a lot of PSPs in Korea, as the DS wasn't released here properly until late 2006/early 2007 or so. Then Nintendo set up a branch, rather than relying on a substandard distributor, spent lost on advertising, and sales went through the roof. |

1. If you have any friends, get the DS. The graphics and cool games on the PSP win hands down. But the multiplayer game play on the DS makes up for it tenfold. So, convince a (girl)friend to buy a DS as well, and you'll have a blast. If you want to sit at home alone on a Saturday night, as tears drip down your beer bottles, and play on a four inch screen, get the PSP. (^^) If you want to have incredibly fun multiplayer (The DS has wifi) challenges with your friends/coworkers on cheesey Nintendo graphics, the PSP can't compete.
2. The Samsung M620 is QWERTY. I'm buying one this week. But test one out first. The keyboard is pretty compact.
Also, someone please confirm this, but I heard that the subsidized phones are done as of this month. After March, they will return to their full prices--500,000 won for a decent phone.

DS is probably the better overall choice. I've owned both and as far as games (the main reason for either after all) go the DS is superior.
This trend may be starting to reverse, as the PSP is seeing some quality titles these days (God of War, Patapon, and FF7:CC in a week) on a graphical level that the DS can't match. However, most of its games (barring Patapon) are watered-down PS2 games as has been stated previously. A hacked PSP's homebrew, emulator and multimedia capabilities are also phenomenal for a handheld if you're into that. If you're not, you can run official skype and web browser on a slim PSP.
All that being said for the PSP, the DS still wins. Nothing sells a console like Nintendo's first party games; no one can ever claim Nintendo's idea mill is stagnant. They've also had a lot of support from other 3rd parties in bulding its game library. The system is a really great deal for $100 or however much it is these days plus a $40 R4 or Supercard. Just don't waste your time on traditional console ports (or I suppose it doesn't matter if you just grab an R4).
Oh yeah, I had a Game Gear, too. That thing was a beast and it ate 6 AAs in about as many hours. |

I would go with PSP personally, but for the features you requested. It seems the DS is your choice. I link my PSP up to my PS3 via the Remote play feature so I can play all my psone games on the go.
But as per your spec, get a DS watch out for the bugged (downloaded p2p) games as some developers add in little surprises for bootleggers.
However... if your tech savvy enough you can get around all that.
But I dont do copied games... prefer the real copy... and Final Fantasy: Crisis Core is coming out soon so PSP wins for me. |

What are you talking about? I have never seen a bugged DS game. It is either a workable copy or it fails on the load up. I have serious doubts that anyone would bother to take the trouble to screw up the game. Where have you seen this? I have been downloading DS games for a long long time and have never even once seen this or heard about it. |

Okay...he may have been correct. I have found the virus information. Sorry I jumped on you so quickly.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Virus Alert Nintendo DS owners!
No doubt the same virus writers (or inspired by others) did not want Nintendo owners to feel left out of the fun. This malware (trojan) is simular to the one invented for the Sony PSP handheld device.
Beware of files with the following names:
r0mloader.zip and taihen.zip
