So i am about to resign with my hagwon, and i was just told that the visa laws changed again today.

resigning teachers are no longer required to apply for the criminal background check. But they must be resigning with the same school. So this is for a visa extension.

Everyhting else is the same including the physical exam.

Hyphens are your friends.

Your education has failed you.

Learn. Study. Grow. I hate to think what shit you'll teach your students if you don't first learn yourself.

That is interesting. Did the hagwon owner tell you this or did you get it straight from the immigration officer? Please let us know. I might be re-signing soon also.

How long can you extend for? I am planning on staying around another year when I finish in July, and if this is true I will definitely stay at my school. There are a few sentences on my record that make me wonder if I will even be able to get back here. For those wondering, a DUI and an offense related to growing up in BC... but they were over a decade ago.

I did not here this directly from the hagwon owner. I heard it directly from the Manager in charge of hiring. I know what your thinking........

But....The hagwon is very reputable as far as hagwons go, and the managers are all foreign, and my personal friends.

I'd be very wary about relying upon this information.

Immigration recently updated their page on re-signing (extension of sojourn) to include the requirements of a criminal record check and medical check. Prior to March 15, they were not required for re-signing teachers and the web page did not list the new documents. Now that the 15th has come and gone, they are listing the new documents as required: http://www.hikorea.go.kr/pt/InfoDetailR_en.pt?categoryId=2&parentId=391&catSeq=429&showMenuId=376&visaId=E2

If they have changed, that's great news. But so far there's been no official indication of this. The prudent course is to proceed as though the new requirements are in place.

UPDATE: Immi changed their website again. The OP was half right. See my later post in this thread for more info.

They're not his only friends.

Homonyms are his friends, too.

I resigned with my school and I did not need any of the new required documents. My new contract started on March 1. We went to immigration in January.

I needed the following documents:

The new contract - signed.
ARC
passport

The school had to provide some documents from their side. I am not clear on what they all were but I knew one document was a letter from the prinicpal that the school wanted to resign me as a teacher.

We went to immi and they gave me a new E2 visa within 10 minutes. I have no idea if things have changed since January and if the March 15 deadline had an effect on this but call immigration directly and speak to more than one officer.

You beat the March 15 deadline. Immigration in Daegu is now telling people that they have to start jumping.

I'd be wary about the OP's experience. I'm not saying it didn't happen, but as someone who's been around the Korean way of doing things for a long time... well, lets' just say they aren't exactly organized or consistent down at immi.

Policy and enforcement differs from office to office and agent to agent.

Hey, great! All you have to do to get a new visa is to limit your employment options and not try for something better.

Sparkling.
