I'm likely going on a trip in late June to mid-july to Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. I've got all kinds of questions, and I was hoping someone who has been to the area can help me out with some info, either via PMs, EMail or MSN.
The main questions are as follows:
1. How much is it to fly from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur? or is it cheaper and nicer to take a train?
2. " " Malaysia/KL to Bali or Jakarta?
3. Same, but to Brunei or Manila.
Essentially what I would like to know is the cost and availability of low cost flights in the region. I did some online searching, but I'm coming up with some conflicting results.
Thanks. |

Checkout AirAsia.com for cheaper prices.
I paid about 120 USD (total one-way in Jan) KL to Singapore on Singapore Airlines. It's a mere 20 minute flight, so I think you can do without comfort and service for 20 minutes, check the other discount airliners too. Unfortunatly, at that time airAsia didn't have flights between KL and Sing. The prices you see advertised is the basic price without the fuel/whatever tax charge they usually charge.
I think the bus takes about 4 hours, my guess in the $30 range.
Also if you buy a ticket from Malaysia into Singapore, it's often cheaper. |

| That's a great link and it's hugely appreciated. Anymore info from anyone would also be welcomed. |

I think the flight between Singapore and KL is actually closer to 40 or 50 minutes. I paid about $350-400 SGD (round-trip) to fly from Singapore to KL on Singapore Airlines, but I booked the tickets two days before I went, so I didn't really have time to look around for cheaper tickets.
If you have a specific day/time that you want to go and you decide to fly, it might be a good idea to book a few days in advance even though there are flights almost every hour. When I booked my tickets, I wanted to go the next day, but there were no seats left at the time I wanted to go, so I had to go a day later instead. I heard that you can go to the airport without a ticket and just wait at the shuttle counter for the next available seat, but sometimes you end up waiting a long time, so I booked my tickets beforehand - not sure if that made them more expensive, or not.
Don't know too much about the trains, but I heard that there's an over-night train that takes about 8 hrs and is very cheap - my friend said it was something like $10. |

I think it's 50 minutes gate to gate, but it's very very short for actual air time. |
