You forgot to add "Didn't support him, but now I do." I can see that being a big answer on this forum... |

I think 'doomed' is too strong a word, but he was certainly damaged. Next week new polls will be out and we'll get a clearer idea if the damage was permanent or passing. My guess is that it will be 'somewhat' damaging. He made a terrific speech the other day, and that certainly helped, but I'm sure some people will never get over Obama's relationship with Wright. It would have helped immensely if Obama had criticized the extreme views years ago, while still remaining a member of that church. |

The media seems to be focusing on Clinton leading in all the polls over Obama.
Also typical of the media, rather than focus on the contents of the speech or even issues, they just focus on the reaction of people towards the Rev. Wright association post-speech.
Generally, people that liked Obama before, most likely thought the speech was impressive (and it was) and people who didn't like him before, can now have some adequate ammunition to sling at him.
Most worrisome are the many uninformed voters who don't know the issues or follow politics, they just see the Rev Wright clips on continuous repeat on all the news media outlets, and say 'anyone but that guy'. |

TB, I think you are going to have misinformed or underinformed people no matter what. My thinking is it will blow over soon and given the fact there is still five weeks until the next election, it won't effect things too much.
My understanding is Obama is spending time in many of the May states including Oregon (this weekend). Tickets for his events in Portland and Medford ran out very quickly. I'm not sure about the other two cities. |

Yeah, from what I've gathered, his speech this week turned things around. It has been noted that the polls were done before his speech, and now he's in a better position. |

I read somewhere that this incident came out at a good time for Obama because it comes during a lull in the campaign. If it had come out sooner, then he might not be in the delegate lead (or even in the race) right now.
Of course, Hillary has her own Pastor Wright problems. More on that later... |

What's that all about? I haven't heard anything about that yet?

Well, Gov Richardson is now behind Obama. I was also relieved at the timing of this whole 'event' as well. Particularly because if he's going to 'go down', I'd rather have it be against Clinton than McCain.
I'm also glad to hear BB about his polling numbers down BEFORE the speech. I thought the speech was real impressive and addressed some incredibly important issues that are generally a very taboo topic to address. I can't help but think that the 'taboo topic' might still do him in just to have to address it, but we will see on that. |

That was a great link, and Huckabee also mentioned it was a historic speech. I felt the same as I watched the speech (regardless of the right-wing and Fox news negative spin on it afterwards).
I've always liked Huckabee for being a real authentic honest person and politician. That link reflects on how solid Huckabee is as well. |

That was a good clip of Huckabee. I wish he'd talked longer on 'cutting some slack'. That view needs to be heard, especially from a conservative. |

There's a photo of Rev. Wright meeting with Bill Clinton in 1998 during the breakfast where he confessed to infidelity. You can see it on Politico.
On the American TV news last night, Clinton complained that Obama's camp released the photo.
But that's not the worst of it. Clinton has been in league with some kooky conservative Bible club in DC.

Sean Hannity has called Obama's church a "cult," but that term applies far more aptly to Clinton's "Family," which is organized into "cells" -- their term -- and operates sex-segregated group homes for young people in northern Virginia. In 2002, writer Jeff Sharlet joined the Family's home for young men, foreswearing sex, drugs and alcohol, and participating in endless discussions of Jesus and power. He wasn't undercover; he used his own name and admitted to being a writer. But he wasn't completely out of danger either. When he went outdoors one night to make a cell phone call, he was followed. He still gets calls from Family associates asking him to meet them in diners -- alone.
The Family's most visible activity is its blandly innocuous National Prayer Breakfast, held every February in Washington. But almost all its real work goes on behind the scenes -- knitting together international networks of right-wing leaders, most of them ostensibly Christian. In the 1940s, the Family reached out to former and not-so-former Nazis, and its fascination with that exemplary leader, Adolph Hitler, has continued, along with ties to a whole bestiary of murderous thugs. |

Is this the speech that had everyone up in arms? If it was, then it appears FOX news wasn't even genuine to play the video in full and inform the listeners that the words were actually that of one of America's ambassadors.

Clinton has been in league with some kooky |
There are some very odd religious groups out there. Some of those groups are in contact with political leaders. It happens. It's when the politicians start endorsing some of those odd groups that would worry me. |
