Hi all,
I'm actually teaching in Vietnam at the moment but I looking at going to Korea in the future.
I'm in my 30's and took the big risk of giving up a career path to follow my heart and travel. As someone who is always mindful of my future, I'm looking at the different options available to me. After teaching for a year now, I realise it's definately for me. Without sounding egotistical, I believe I am quite a good teacher, with older teenagers through to adults.
Ok, now that i have got my TESOL certificate, my BA and a very good professional CV, I'm just wondering if it is worth pursuing any further study. I thoroughly enjoy teachinug adults and students at university level. I'm currently doing a little bit of IELTS teaching and although I'm learning as I go, I'm really enjoying it. Therefore, what do you think? Is it worth furthering my studies? If so, any advice as to what i should study or any career advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!!! |

Your situation is very similar to mine (TESOL, BA, 30's etc) although I've never taught in Vietnam.
You'll be fine with what you've got in terms of teaching in the public schools over here, although the eldest you'll teach will be 16, 17 and 18. If you want to teach adults, then you'll have to work at a private Hagwon.
I'm currently working towards an MSc. It's tough going, but I've got plenty of down time in my schedule for studying/reading etc at school. You may be as lucky, but there again, you may have a much heavier work load than me. It really just depends on the school etc.
I'd say that you should probably come over and see how your particular gig turns out first before signing up to an expensive and demanding postgrad course. |
