I like Samgyup sal better. The fattier the better and I like it will a thin layer of skin. Its best cooked in one of those makeshift garbage bin restaurants with all the retro Dr. Who style ducking

Galbi all the way, though many there arewho swear by the 3-layer meat as you do.

Marinade is trhe key, as with a lot of meat. The ommoni at my local favorite uses kiwi in hers, might make it more tender, definitely sweetens it. She asked me to keep that under my hat, a family secret - promise you won't tell, okay?

Tough call.

Gotta go with Sam, though. Just so good.

I just determine based on cooking style. If it's charcoal, galbi. If it's propane, samgyupsaur. By the way, galbi really is better in Suwon. I was surprised that that whole "_____ city is famous for ______ food" thing really has some meat to it.

Proper galbi is so amazing that samgyeopsal (as good as it is) isn't even in the same league. Galbi has so much more flavor.

This is making me upset because I can't get galbi and now I really want some.

Sam gyup sal is good, but not too often. I like it thick cut. Better still though (better for you, and more taste) is moksal, a cut from the neck. Very tasty. I prefer them cooked on flat stone.

Both kick azz...depends what yer up for. I eat it once or twice a week usually at home but sometimes at the 2,500 place as it's just as cheap as doing at the crib....always w. at least two bottles of soju, more satisfying that way. Very Happy

Yeah, it's the only time I'll drink more than a polite shot of soju.

quality samgyupsal is the best, where as low quality is almost unbearable. i voted for samgyup because of one little spot in donam that i'll never get sick of eating at. saw mention of moksal, which is great stuff. i also really love kal meggi sal.

Both meals along with soju have been a factor in why I've stayed so long in Korea.....in one of those ever regular Korean ironies the cheaper and skankier the restaurant the bigger the portions of meat and the range and quality of the side dishes.

Do you miss Strawbeery Kiss from Smoothie King?

I had one Sunday night in downtown Seoul after dinner.

I prefer Strawberry Kiss Smoothie over both of them.

I gotta say the Sam. The best part is the sesame oil/salt dip.

Kal-bi is pretty good too. However, I think Kal-bi is a pricier dish for a special occasion. Samgyupsal is something you can grab any day of the week, even if you are low on cash.
