Talking to a few co-workers and other incheonites, I've noticed that a lot of us seem to having heaps of trouble getting to sleep. I've always been a night owl, but I'm finding I'm having heaps of trouble getting to sleep here.
How do people beat the wide awake at 3 o'clock in the morning thing?
So far I've tried:
Not reading.
Going to the gym/exercising.
Getting up early.
Trying to go to sleep at the same time every night.
Eliminating caffine/cutting down on sugar
Booze
The only one that gets me to sleep is a few nips of soju or a glass or two of wine. I have eliminated drinking due to antics described here so I'm on the hunt for a new cure. So share people.

In regard to your creative insomnia, try not to nap during the day. Go workout in a gym. Take the odd melatonin (careful though). Lie down at a decent time 12:30 and just relax in a dark quiet room.
Best of luck,

You could always get a thyroid problem. Makes you sluggish all day, until you crave your bed at night! Unfortunately, despite my ability to sleep wonderfully in my apartment, there's cat dander everywhere, and I'm allergic to it, so I haven't been sleeping at all.
Really, I think the best way to knock yourself out, though, is to give yourself a nice, active day. Do lots and lots of activities to keep both body and mind stimulated. |

I have been here for a little over four months and I still can't sleep, on the days when I'm really tired I take a sleeping pill. Go see your local pharmacist, they have herbal stuff, (called chon shim solution I think), and the regular drug yourself stuff. I use it about once a week and it seems to help my body clock to function for the next few nights too.
good luck |

Have a baby, or, failing that, babysit someone else's newborn for a week or two. You will very quickly learn the technique of falling asleep at any time during the day or night at a moments' notice in the most uncomfortable of places. (note this can be rather inconvenient). |

I'm a night owl, too, and the worst problem I have had in Korea was while working school vacation shifts at a hogwon. I just could not go to sleep at a decent hour, and had to be at work during my usual sleeping hours.
I have respiratory allergies and have to take antihistamines all the time. I learned I CANNOT take Benadryl during the day because I will fall asleep, no matter what I'm doing. So I take Tavist (Clemastine Fumarate) by day and Benadryl (Diphenhydramine) at night and I can breathe and sleep.
(Diphenhydramine is also marketed as a sleeping pill in the US.) |

Try some warm milk and a relaxing bath (if you can do that) before bed. Another thing I have also heard is if you happen to read/sleep/watch TV/eat on your bed, move those activities to other places for awhile. That should train your body to the idea that the bed is for sleep and sleep only.
DO NOT exercise a few hours before bedtime. You might think exercise will wear you out, but after awhile, it does the exact opposite, giving you more energy.
Try to hold yourself off a nap until a reasonable bedtime hour, too, then go to bed.
Hope someone's suggestion helps you out. |

Suggestion: Get a big fan and run it beside your bed. Then just concentrate on listening to it. It will put you to sleep. Failing that just turn on the TV and watch any Korean television program; you will be out cold in five minutes. |

But watch out that you don't put the fan TOO close to your bed or you will find yourself in a DEEP SLEEP! Mwa ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually that is a fairly good idea too, a fan (since you are not Korean) or a radio set to an in between station position, so it creates white noise might work too. |
