Three months in advance. Tickets cost a lot more as you get closer to the due date. I just bought my late June ticket last week. Price just shot up another $400. Remind your boss of this. |

Oh, I can't remember, really. Rules were different back then, and you didn't have to pay tickets almost immediately, as you have had to do for the past few years.
I think it's just a good idea to tell your boss to reserve early and save some money. This being Korea, they probably won't. |

I mentioned it to my director as a kind of "by the way" thing about 3 weeks before, because he hadn't said anything about it. He said he would look into it. A couple days later I had my ticket.
But I agree, the sooner the better. |

Sorry to hijack, but when I finish out here in August 2009, I want to take the train back to the UK on the Trans Siberian railway.
Just wanted to know whether the schools pay your airfare or does the cash come directly from the Board of Education etc (I'm with EPIK) and, if so, what'd you think the chances of them paying for my train ticket back would be?
Apologies again.
Cheers.

If I were you, I wouldn't let them know anything about your plan, but buy a refundable ticket to your home country, then cash it in, and use that money for your train ticket.
Speaking from experience, any time I presented them with any slight variation on what it says in the contract ('a direct flight to your home country'), they just couldn't cope with it. Even when I showed them quotes that my planned travel was actually (much!) cheaper than a direct flight, they always just thought I was trying to rip them off - when I would actually have been doing them a favour. And they got quite snarky about it too.
Best of luck. |

that's because that's what they would do if they were in your position! |

Do such things actually exist? I've never heard of a refundable airline ticket. |

On the Delta website there is a check box for refundable in the reservation widget on the left of the page.
DELTA
Be advised the $1140 bargain ticket now becomes $1980 refundable. |

So, people:
Did your boss buy you a ticket, or did he/she give you the money? If cash, how much did you get? |
